FWIW The current Portable ClamWin download no longer supports virus database updates. According to the update's error msg it's too old.

Starting from ClamAV 0.9x, whenever your ClamAV engine becomes outdated and the difference between the functionality level required by the CVD and the functionality level supported by your ClamAV engine is more than 3, freshclam refuses to check for updates more often than 6 times per day. The reason for this is that there is no use to generate traffic on our mirrors if you cannot take advantage of all the signatures anyway. If you really care about catching as much malware as possible and you want to check for updates more often than 6 times per day, then you should also not run such an old version of ClamAV.

So it seems to work for me, with my 0.93 version, winxp, though I've always had that getfile/getpatch warning a couple of times before it finally finds it. Anyone know why?

which is why I saw no need to download a newer version. Are you saying this history is outdated/wrong or that there is another webpage I should be looking at?

That app's homepage is where I got the link to the version history which lists 0.90.2 May 9th as the current version and where the Download Details shows Date updated: April 21, 20008. I see nothing on that homepage showing when an update to 0.93 was put up.
What am I missing??

You must be a lawyer. Talk about fine print. Could you make the version number in the button any smaller??
Suggestion, switch the font sizes for the release/version number and the word Download. Better yet, remove the word Download from the button and make it simply bold, strong in your case, text above the botton, or below. And then add the date the download was updated, in the original fine print text size, inside the button.

I continue to see this problem. Back around the time I created my first PortableApps USB environment it happened. Now with a new stick (I lost the first one) I continue to see the same problem. I suspect that it is a proxy/firewall issue with my customer's intranet though a flaky network at ClamAV could also be the cause ... but flaky for over six months?
It's probably a proxy on your end then. Nothing ClamWin folks can do about that. You can configure the proxy in Clamwin (Tools - Preferences - Proxy) or you can download the updates manually from the ClamWin or ClamAV website.

I tried sneaking in the HTTP proxy at my client's site but that didn't solvc it. WIll have to have an off the record chat with their IP people; they don't like people using their own software but then I detest Microsoft products.
I agree with John. In my experience different connections will result in the behavior you describe where as my home connection updates with out a hitch.

another reason for the outdated message is downloading with the clamwinupdater http://clamup.co.nr ,
since it probably checKs for the linux release - the most recent for linux is 0.93.1

I had to download the main.cvd file, in addition to daily.cvd, before I could use ClamWin.
the OP was about updating the daily database not the whole data.
So, if you are going to do a first run, you´ll need the whole database, of course.

Your problem looks to be the same as the one I reported earlier in the thread (see the note "Proxy proxy). Where are you using ClamWin (and portableApps) --- behind a corporate firewall for example?
