A lot of the Google software has actually already been requested, just search before posting next time using the function top right of this site in the menu bar.
Unfortunately, most of Google's software is closed source, so it can't be hosted on SourceForge.net for download. Further more, it's bound to all be copyrighted, so it would make it eve harder for some of their software that is open source.
There's lots of alternative to Google software that is open source however, just do a search and request them.
It's strange how Google doesn't make any open source software. They hacked Ubuntu for their company, and their motto is Don't Be Evil. But I guess they have their reasons.
But I'm guessing the reason Google Earth is Closed Source is that they have multiple versions for different people. And all those satellite pictures can't be cheap.

"It's strange how Google doesn't make any open source software."
Not sure why you would think so. It's a multinational multibillion dollar for profit corporation.
"They hacked Ubuntu ..."
This makes them good?
"...their motto is Don't Be Evil"
Yeah, right
I think Microsoft's current motto is "Your potential. Our passion"
"But I guess they have their reasons"
Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money.
I have no trust or respect for GooGoo at all.
But, some people love it
Hey, some people love Flash

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
You don't like Google? ...
Did I Stutter?...
I have never understood the fascination people have with GooGoo
It's a search engine, it has a toolbar, it has email, it has some bells and whistles.
Yahoo has all of these, as do MSN and the other search engines did before they died. I liked the days when we had 5-10 good search engines that were all a little different.
Yahoo has served me well since the first days of the internet. I've tried GooGoo and don't find it to be any better. I've heard stories about how long they keep and index your email to serve ads and I don't think I like that.
GooGoo Earth is Ok I guess.
Tim
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
WTH is GooGoo?
It's 'Google'
Say it with me.
Are you one of those people who feels they should spell the name of the company different (like Winblows) because you don't persoanlly like them, or am I misunderstanding you?
"Are you one of those people who feels they should spell the name of the company different (like Winblows) because you don't persoanlly like them, or am I misunderstanding you?"
I never thought about it that way but I guess I've become one. In fact I picked it up from the "Winblows/Evil Empire" guy. The only difference is I don't shove it down peoples throats every time I post by having it in my .sig file.
Google [there I said it with you ] is no more evil than any other company trying to make money, like Microsoft, U3, IBM, or even, (dare I say "it") Flash ...:p.
[ No, NO, NO I CAN'T SAY IT!!! Flash IS Evil }:) !!!]
[Pause while I wash my mouth out with soap]
Ok, I'm back.
[Maybe I should start calling it Adobe "Flush", hey yeah, I that that]
Back to the thought, ... but it, Google, is no better than any of them either :(.
Tim
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Adobe Flush, I like it, not gonna lie.
Then your favorite site would be omarosa.com?
The only difference is I don't shove it down peoples throats every time I post by having it in my .sig file.
Haha, yeah true eh.
I was going to edit my post and I got an access denied message.
You must have hit [Post Comment] just after I loaded the node
Now I can't put 3 smileys after Adobe "Flush"
"Adobe Flush, I like it, not gonna lie "
I here-by release it under OS GPL Feel free to use it!
"Then your favorite site would be omarosa.com?"
I don't get it ???
Tim
[Edit: Double Bastard That whole site is "Flush" and I can't use it unless I activate my Flusher and I refuse to Flush unless I really need to
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Every single bloody component of the site is its own piece of flash. I saw it on Websites That Suck.
Look at that title. *gulp*
Oh my god, the Flash. THE FLASH! *dies*

hmmm...
-Flash for web games = good (I prefer java, but...)
-Flash as a web site = bad
-Programming in asp.Net because MS says it is much better than html but finding out that it's useless unless your building something like a web store = *panics* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... *stops for a breath* ...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! IT"S NOT PRETTY AT ALL!!! *faints from lack of sleep and oxygen*

somewhere over there anyway. I'd like to believe Google is less evil then Microsoft...

Not for me
[Even though I "allow" this site to use javascipt in the NoScript Add-On/Extension I generally have Javascript itself turned off unless I need it.]
"I'd like to believe Google is less evil then Microsoft..."
In all fairness, neither one is actually evil [unless you are a communist, in which case I guess All for profit corporations are evil]
Tim

i think you're looking a little to much into it. in this case, i use evil to mean greed. a capitalist can even recognize when something is too much. i just think google hasn't reached the level of greed microsoft has. they're getting there though... Just my opinion...
But I suppose we all would do what microsoft and google has done if we were in the same position... us capitalists anyway...

I will throw a big party when they finally go down.

1. It started as two bright students with a bright idea at stanford. The founders don't care a bit about money. They just wanted to make a sucessful company.
2.Hey, they don't use Microsoft for a reason. Back then they had no money, so they had to use linux.
3. Don't be Evil is they're motto on the inside. That's why they don't have flashy banner ads, and why the company suceeded in the first place.
3.Google Maps, Gmail, Google Apps, Google Video/Youtube, etc. all require massive amounts of space and power a.k.a. Money. Okay, they put ads in some of them, who notices?

One way to do so is to read The Google Story by David A. Vise.

by the way,...
"That's why they don't have flashy banner ads, and why the company suceeded [sic] in the first place."
"It should also be noted that one reason for the simplistic design was due to the lack of HTML programming knowledge held by the Google founders..."
I'll let you use Google to find the source of the quote
and as far as:
"The founders don't care a bit about money."
That is Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo Funny
Maybe you do have a sense of humor after all.

By the way, are you wearing a turban?

However, once a company becomes owned by a group of people (such as one publicly traded on the stock market), that company must act in ways that maximize shareholder wealth. If they don't do that, there can be a lot of legal trouble.
Further, in order to be successful, companies need to maximize profit. That extra profit is figured into the ratios that investors use to decide whether to buy into a company and for how much. That extra investment (plus the additional profits they earned in the first place) is then used to: increase the value of their products and services, increase the efficiency within the company, improve their marketing efforts (thereby increasing market share), develop new and better products, erect barriers to entry (putting a stop to new startup competition, create a competitive advantage, and generally put the hurt on their competitors. If they don't, other companies will do those things to them.
Their squeaky-clean image is part of their long-term profit maximization strategy.
That's funny. It should be more like
"Your money = our money."
or
"Your need. Our Hegemony."
Did I mention that I have no trust or respect for M$ at all?...

Correction: It's strange how Google doesn't make some of his software open source. Android, for example is OSS. Now Google Earth and SketchUp are closed source (I am pretty sure that Google Earth is closed source because satellite pictures aren't cheap, as you said; and they just took the previous license of SketchUp from when they bought it).
Blue is everything.
Open Source Software is not a religion, nor is it the only choice for a business. Google does a fair amount to support OSS. It also has some closed source and patented stuff. That sounds to me like business decisions, not hypocrisy or the embodiment of evil.
Now if they were blatantly violating some license, by all means let us know.

*All bow down to Tux*
They may not release much of their software as open source, but they certainly contribute back to the OS community. The Summer Of Code, various patches to OS software, Google Code Hosting (which I love) and the fact that their developers write books for the OS community, to name just a few examples.

Any plans to make portable apps work on Android system? I want to use the G1 like a laptop. Thunderbird, Open Office, etc. These are essential to running a small business today. I welcome feedback in my email at rossrosado@crawler.com
I started respecting them when they told everybody to get firefox on their homepage. Of course it was a link to a yahoo edition of firefox, but who cares?
At least they didn't steal code from Chromium. *sticks tounge out at google and microsoft*
