OO.o 3 portable

Sorry, but youre joking.

It's now the 8th of december, youre answer is from dec 2nd -- and you give a link to a PRE Release.

Its simply a joke, an its a very bad one.

Why is n't OO.o 3 portable available on the regular way: directly from the site?
As long as it isn't to me there is NO OO.o 3.0 portable available - and i suppose that many other users think the same way.

No: looking and searching in forums for collecting links, downloading myriads of files and put all this together like a puzzle for becoming an OO.o 3 portable is NOT an alternative and is NOT the same like "OO.o 3 ist available as portable app".

The link he gave is only a

The link he gave is only a pre-release of the portable package, it is the full, final release of OpenOffice.org 3.0 contained inside though.

Nobody was making a joke at all, someone asked where OpenOffice.org 3.0 Portable was, and a link was provided.

There's no collecting links and myriads of files necessary to put this together, 3 of the 4 files listed are just different languages. The 4th is the extended image pack which was removed to save space. The only link necessary is one of the first 3, whichever best suits your language needs.

I don't understand why they don't release the final version. I heard weeks ago that it is in couple of days ready. And till now nothing happens. Are there stil any problems? Will it be released this year? Wink

As has been discussed many

As has been discussed many times before on this and other packages, the people who do the work here are VOLUNTEERS. I understand how frustrating it can be to wait, I wait too. You have several alternatives:
- convince the OOo project that it is in their best interest to release a portable version along with the installable one,
- develop the skils needed to offer your help to the crew here,
- take a deep breath, and wait with the rest of us.

Use the standard Ooo3.0 in the meantime!

(Ach, Mutti!)

If you're in a hurry, download the standard version and use it in the meantime. It's a 142.37 meg download, and the DownThemAll Plugin for Firefox makes it a snap.

Busy downloading it as I type here, and I'm sure the download will finish before the portable version is released ...

Sorry. Sarcasm is a poor form of wit. I apologise.

Sorry, but

Sorry but: why should I go an collect that pre-release of the portable version together with those "3 or 4 other links"?

Can't they offer OO.o 3 portable as one complete package from the main page, like al the other versions before or aren't the willing to do so?
And if latter: why aren't they?

I stand on my word: it's a very bad joke.

It is not a joke ... it is real life!

The reason why we don't offer the final version for download its simple, cause it is NOT RELEASED yet.

Ready to relase means that the packages are (technicaly) ready but as John told there are other issues to solve Sad

It's Coming

Marko and I have been working directly with the OpenOffice.org and Sun folks on a few things. We're working on moving from being the semi-official portable release of OpenOffice.org that they recommend and link to to the actual official package. We were trying to have it be with the 3.0 release but there are a few more logistical issues (branding, QA hosting, download servers) that have held it up. It looks now like we may have to transition over the next few releases rather than hold up further.

So, one way or another, we'll have it out on or before next Tuesday.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Why the pressure?

I am amazed at the courtesy and patience of the 'backroom boys' who are struggling to give us a portable version of OpenOffice 3.0.

Some people appear to think that that they are 'owed' this release and their demands are both arrogant and rude considering that the product is a free gift from selfless developers.

For every one of these impatient 'gimme now' people I am sure that there are a hundred who are patiently waiting.

To the developers I say do not rush the release, take just as much time as you need and good luck with your efforts.

To the children I say 'cool off and let the guys do their job'.

Yep, take it easy

Although I am also checking back every few days, I absolutely subscribe to donleavy's comment:

there are hundreds (thousands?) of other people out there who know what it's like to do something voluntarily (most prob because they do something like this in another field) under high time pressure and who really, really appreciate what you are doing.

Keep it up and also keep the spirit up!

cheers tom
