Best Practice for upgrading individual apps?

Hi All...

I was just in the process of new install for the PA suite, had finished the Clamwin defs update and had just opened Sunbird when it informed me that the 0.9 Sunbird update was available... did I want to download and install?

It isn't clear to me what the flashdrive apps look like to the 'outside net'.
For example, should I let Sunbird use its own updater, or wait & download a portable .9 from here?
What if there is a same version Sunbird also installed on the host computer? Any chance of mucking it up?

I'm using Sunbird for an example because it only has a 'now' and a 'remind me later' option, but there is the larger question

most updates these days are for security or bugfix reasons, few GUI features are really being added between versions. Other than the host machines' Internet Security Suites, are the interim updates really needed?

Do not let the apps

Do not let the apps auto-update, especially the Mozilla apps (Firefox, Sunbird, Thunderbird). The Mozilla apps will create or overwrite registry keys and corrupt a local version, or leave traces behind

thanks Zach! ps&fyi- I just

thanks Zach!

ps&fyi- I just picked up a Lexar 4 Gig Jumpdrive Secure II from Staples for $10.

It looked good because of the price and it has a capacity gauge- like a gas gauge in a car, but...

It seems extremely slow compared to my Toshiba & Sandisk drives. May just be me, I'm new to this!:]

Bigger drives are slower

Bigger capacity flash drives are always slower.
For example, a Kingston DataTraveler 1GB is faster than 4GB.

Not neccessarily actually I

Not neccessarily actually I have an 8 gig flash drive thats faster than my 1 gig flash drive. Why? you may ask because it's more expensive and built better than the cheaper flash drives. Blum
