Extensions lost when drive letter

When I installed all of Firefox's extensions, the drive letter of my thumb drive was E:. Now that I'm on a different machine and the drive letter is F:, all of my extensions don't run. They're still in the PortableFirefox\profile\extensions directory; it's just as though Firefox isn't reading the drive letter correctly. Is this a known problem, and what can I do to fix it?

Check

Are you running PortableFirefox.exe? If so, it automatically adjusts the drive letter. Did you make any changes with an INI?

Entire profile lost when drive letter changed

Ran portable firefox and portable thunderbird on my home machine, where it ran on my USB flash drive in drive F:\. I spent a LOT of time configuring, setting up email and news accounts, passwords, addressbook, history, etc. Everything was working fine until I plugged it into my daughter's machine, where it became J:\. Both TB and Firefox became new, virgin installations. I had zipped up my thunderbird profile, so I replaced the TB profile with my home-machine profile.

Some stuff transferred, other stuff remained obstinately unconfigured. I can't get into my ISP's nntp feed at all, even with the proper passwords and following their website's instructions.

No, I didn't change any .ini files or anything else. I read the readme about the ini file, but am unclear about what is meant by "portable thunderbird LAUNCHER". Is this the .exe file or the shortcut I made to avoid a lot of typing of ugly windows pathnames or something completely different?

I've now spent a considerable amount of time configuring the programs to run on THIS machine. Am I going to have to do this all over again when I plug the drive into my home machine?

All things considered, this doesn't seem like any practical sort of portability...

Any suggestions?

Launcher

You HAVE to launch it with PortableFirefox.exe. There are no commandline parameters necessary. You should never use a Windows shortcut (they break when your drive letter changes). You just run PortableFirefox.exe. If you run firefox.exe directly, it's the same as running an installed version of Firefox and it will put your data within C:\Documents and Settings\[login]\Application Data\Mozilla Firefox\. This is stated right in the "Using Portable Firefox" section of the support page which is linked to from the Portable Firefox main page as well as within the help.html file that's included with Portable Firefox. I have a yahoo checker extension that loses the drive letter

I'm loading up pff properly, the yahoo mail checker extension (Yahoo mail notifier 0.9.9.2) has the ability to play a sound upon new mail being received, if I change comps and a different drive letter is assigned, the sound won't play. Unless it's the code in the extension itself at fault?

It's the extension

Some extensions store full paths. It most likely stores the full path to the sound file you pick. So, as the drive letter changes... it loses it. You could ask the extension author to support relative paths... example: \sounds\newmail.wav ... in addition to: X:\sounds\newmail.wav.
