Only on Intel macs will WINE work.. They are/were developing a PowerPC version but not a lot of success with it yet.
Thanks,

I'm pretty sure that Wine for PowerPC was discontinued almost as soon as the Intel Macs came out. Mac OS X itself will probably drop support for PPC within the next revision or two. Rumor is that 10.6 may be Intel only -- not a surprise as it will be launching about 3 years after Apple made the Intel transition -- so that would mean PPC macs are dead and will probably see fewer apps developed for them in the near future.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
PortableApps is compatible with Windows only, or Linux with Wine.
Search Google for 'Free SMUG'. They have a selection of Mac compatible USB apps and launchers.
actually wine is compatible with MacOSx and thus PortableApps.com Applications will run on MacOSx

are very expensive. I have never had a Mac because of this.
For example, a Intel iMac costs £800 and has 1GB of RAM and a Dual Core processor.
You could buy a Windows or Linux computer with 4gb RAM and a Quad Core processor for £600.
