Hiding Certain .exe's from the launcher

I was recently installing TrueCrypt on my PA flash drive. It all worked fine, but, because it contains 2 .exe's they both showed up in the launcher. Is there any way to hide specified .exe's from the launcher, but still keep them working?

Thanks

Truly

It is a pity you cannot, for the shortcuts are hidden themselves.

PAC / Mod 34 / Next PAM

You could use the Portable App Creator to create a shortcut. However with an application like TrueCrypt I'm not sure how safe or viable this option is. I wouldn't use this option unless you have fair bit of pc knowledge. Enough where I know I wouldn't take the chance myself.

Another alternative is to use the Mod34 menu. This isn't officially supported however and does have a number of known bugs which you can find on the forums. This is a viable solution.

However I personally recommend waiting for the next release of the PortableApps.com Menu which will have this feature integrated into it, will be supported here and though it will be an alpha release, from John's track record and perfectionist trait you can bet it will be a pretty high quality alpha Smile

Your call.

Thanks

I think I'll wait for the next release Smile

Thanks for the options, is there an estimate when the next alpha will be released?

Dunno :-)

The next release of the PortableApps.com Menu has been delayed for about a month now. This is because John T. Haller (The creator of PortableApps.com) is negotiating with various portable device manufacturers and proprietary software developers. He is developing partnerships with these companies to ensure a financially viable future for PortableApps.com. In the past John has absorbed the costs for maintaining this website out of his own pocket and I believe has at times taken out loans to keep us online. Therefore it is natural that the menu has been put on the back burner for the moment.

Here is the thread which is being used to announce the status of release.

Also you may be interested to know another outcome of John's current work is to open up the PortableApps.com Format to proprietary software and freeware developers. This will vastly increase the number of portable applications available. I reiterate it is therefore natural that the menu has been put on the back burner for the moment while John performs this work.

We all hope it will be released soon but unfortunately cannot give a date as yet. I hope this hasn't been a too long winded response for saying "dunno" but now you have pretty good take on the situation:-)

Great!!

Really happy to hear that he's opening the ay for more apps. I've moved from U3 to PA, and am completely happy except for the huge lack of apps. I've been making my own makeshift versions or finding them from ... other ... sources so far. Good to hear as this was my only qualm about switching to PA.

Thanks for updating me on the situation Smile

Sources?

I'd be interested in finding out where exactly these sources are... so that we can take them down. Blum

I quite like my sources Wink

Plus, their not using the PA splash or anything, just creating apps that don't need installs. But some of the sites may not be Entirely legal Wink

Yeh

Portable applications are certainly the way of the future, with registry components being the exception NOT the rule.

Update

Is there any progress on the alpha?

Also, what is the current version and the to-be released version numbers?

And Merry Christmas Smile
