Geek.Menu

Very Custom-izable.
Themes, own icons.
Fast to load and start - I have over 70 apps and Geek.Menu Auto loads in under 6 seconds.

Cairns - Beautiful one day, Perfect the next!

geek.menu for life

geek.menu is quite cool, especially for the TrueCrypt integration. However, it seems the development just stopped :(. I would use it instead of the mighty PStart, the only thing I miss is the keyboard shortcuts.

Can someone tell me more

Can someone tell me more about these menus and where to get them? I thought the only menu out there was the PAM?

Just look online for menus,

Just look online for menus, like "USB Menus" or anything to that extent.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try geek.menu first as I see some good feedback about it here...

I recommend appetizer (still in beta here in the PApps Beta testing). I like its simplicity and its optional thing that allows you to press some buttons (mine is alt+a) (I think theyre called hotkeys but i'm not sure). AND it creates an icon in the statusbar. I dont like the large geek.menu because it takes up too much space on the screen and is larger then Appetizer.

PortableApps Menu MOD R3x

I love this one. It takes a bit longer to load on most computers but it is worth it.

I don't have a short attention span. I just...oh look a kitty!

Secondary to PStart...

... increasingly I use FreeCommander's "Favorite" button to launch my most often-used apps. I have FreeCommander configured to display two panes with a toolbar in the middle that includes the Favorite button for applications. Since I use FreeCommander constantly as my desktop and file manager, it's always right there with its app menu too. Not a very sophisticated app menu, though; programs can be grouped but the groups are not collapsible, so the full list of programs would be very long. And it doesn't auto-launch, etc., so it's really not a fully viable menu in its own right.

What PStart itself doesn't do is close or exit any running programs when the menu is closed. Why is that, I wonder? Can any of the other menus mentioned in this thread do that?

I saw something -- possibly in one of the PortableApps forums -- about a script that can be run to close all apps. But, there were problems with it, or maybe it was too esoteric for me to understand how to use, or it might have been old and no longer supported... I just remember having tried to implement it but abandoning it for some reason. If I can find a menu that auto-closes running apps, I might be persuaded to switch from PStart.

Cheers!

geek.menu

Geek menu is a lot like the PAM mod thing except it has a few more features (actually, I have no Idea- I just googled it a minute ago...)
