Adobe SVG plugin writes to registry

Upon install of the Adobe SVG plugin in PFF (v1.504), I believe the license acceptance is written to the registry of the host machine (WinXP). Is there anyway to get around this so there are no registry entries? Thanks.

Bob

There is no way to do it by default. You could attempt to write and unwrite the plugin info on start and end of Portable Firefox... but that's kind link the game with the gophers and the hammer you see at carnivals in terms of all the different extensions available. Luckily, Firefox 2.0 includes native SVG support rendering Adobe's plugin obsolete.

Yes, that what I thought. We

Yes, that what I thought. We are dealing with a project where client's machines are locked (no installs or registry entries), so portable apps would work great, IF they truly didn't write to registry.

I hope the final version of FF 2.0 handles SVG better than the beta. I tried it out on my site and it displays SVG much differently than the Adobe plugin -- fonts are messed up, alignments are off and some scripting does not work. Could be my coding is not following exact standards but it works fine with the current Adobe plugin. Thanks for your comments.

SVG Generation

Depends on what you generated the SVG in. If you generated it in an Adobe product, it could be doing non-standard stuff that works with the Adobe SVG plugin and only the SVG plugin. Since hardly anyone has that plugin, I recommend against that. Try firing up Inkscape and checking out your SVG in that. If it's messed up, there's a good chance your SVG has non-standard stuff in it.
