Firefox version detection

Hi! I noticed that my FF Portable version is not the same with info in About... section. I have in About:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; ru-RU; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/2.0.0.14
But version is just installed 3.0.5 and it is update from 3.0.4.

Thanks for attention,
Yury

Something went wrong

My 3.05 shows 3.05 in the Help/About screen.

I think you probably have a different version somewhere on the machine you are using, and that's the one that is running.

Sounds like something went wrong with the upgrade process.

Back up your profile before trying to fix this issue (you can never be too cautious). Download the 3.05 again and watch how the upgrade process goes.

The upgrade process was fine.

The upgrade process was fine. But nothing was changed. The Help/About screen is sure of its 2.0.0.14 version.

Moreover, I installed non-portable Firefox 3.0.5 and it became 2.0.0.14 too after acquisition of my settings from portable version. I think my settings contain this mistake, but I do not know, what file should be corrected.

Not Possible

It's not possible that you installed 3.0.5 and it became 2.0.0.x. The version from here ONLY includes 3.0.5, nothing else.

1. Be sure you're downloading from PortableApps.com. There are illegal versions floating around with malware, major bugs and other issues.

2. Install it to your portable device as normal, preferably to X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable (the default and supported install location)

3. Close all local versions of Firefox

4. Remove your FirefoxPortable.ini from X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable if you have one

5. Run FirefoxPortable.exe in X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable and you'll have 3.0.5.

Most likely you did something like try to set Firefox as the default browser somewhere or are trying to run multiple instances (neither of which are recommended or supported).

Thanks, but everything is all

Thanks, but everything is all right with blank installation. But I really want to have my settings and configured extensions instead of a blank Fox.

The Help/About screen is actually look so:

And any showmyip tools recognize 2.0.0.14, while FF is 3.0.5:

P.S. Surely I download FF from portableapps.com.

you are right

the updated version on my side shows the same

only the fresh one shows only the last version.

But on the top the right version is shown , so I would not worry too much abt it.

why does it say

why does it say Firefox/2.0.0.14;MEGAUPLOAD 1.0?? I suppose you have installed an extension named "user agent switcher??

MegaUpload

It would appear you have an incompatible extension installed. MegaUpload is modifying your user agent string which is causing the issue... or you're using something else to cause the same thing to happen. Remove that extension. You don't have Firefox 2.0.0.14 in there, MegaUpload is just causing Firefox to say that it is both in the About box and to websites, which will cause major issues.

I do not remember

I really do not remember about this plugin. Moreover, no MegaUploads are listed in my add-ons screen or profile folder.
May be I just do not remember...

Fixing the MEGAUPLOAD string

The MEGAUPLOAD extension is the cause of the user agent version number being wrong. I did this too when I "fixed" Mozilla so I can download from Megaupload without restriction. Here's the solution.

Type about:config in the address bar.
Filter for general.useragent.extra.firefox . You should see that MEGAUPLOAD name.
Right-click this preference and select "Reset"
Then go to "Help>About Mozilla Firefox" and it should now show Firefox/3.0.5
Hope that helps!
