No link to OOo Selector in PA Menu

Hi!
I've just installed OpenOffice Portable 3.0. There are six shortcuts in PortableApps Menu (one for each app of the suit) but there is not shortcut for OpenOffice Selector. There is a seventh file - OpenOfficePortable.exe in OpenOfficePortable folder, but PA Menu doesn't show it. How can I make PA to show this file in menu?

I want only the main launcher in the menu

How can we set the PAM to show only the Main/Selector Launcher? I don't need all the other launchers! They are just a waste of space in the menu.

You cant

The menu is designed to ignore that file. The other launchers use it.

@th3wildwolf:
If you don't need a launcher, just delete it and it wont show up anymore. Right now it isn't possible to hide exes from the menu.

Yes, but...

I believe that having only one launcher would keep the menu cleaner. I understand the importance of the individual launchers (users can delete them if they want anyway) but I can't understand why is the main one hidden.

Sugestion: Make the installer ask the user if he wants all the launchers or just the main one.

To John: Please launch the new version of the menu soon. We can't wait for all the new features especially the one to hide individual apps. Blum

One shortcut to selector OpenOfficePortable

OK, now I know how to do it.
First, you will need one tiny program, Portabilizer, it's freeware, you can find it here:

http://www.mystercrowley.com/sw_portabilizer_en.php

Download, install and run it. Next give the new launcher's name (don't put the word "Portable", Portabilizer adds this in the end by itself). As "Launch target" give "OpenOfficePortable.exe". Icon for new launcher you can find in your OpenOfficePortable directory (\App\AppInfo\appicon.ico) or you can use any other icon you want. Output folder should be set to "PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable" on your pendrive (in the same folder where are the other OpenOffice launchers). Click "Start" in Portabilizer, the new shortcut will be placed in this folder. Now start PortableApps Menu. You should find there a new shortcut with the name you gave it. If it works, you can delete 6 other launchers from OpenOfficePortable (but OpenOfficePortable.exe must stay!). Now you have only one shortcut to OpenOfiice launcher.

Good luck!

Doesn't work

This method doesn't work for me.
1) It doesn't appear in the menu
2) The new launcher requires admin acces
3) After closing openoffice windows asks me if the program installed correctly becaute windows treats the launcher as an installer :))

Thank you for your answer anyway.

I don't know

I'm sorry to hear it, I tested it by myself and it worked. Portabilizer creates the shortcut which should be seen by PA Menu, are you sure you put the new shorcut to the right folder (OpenOfficePortable main folder)? And I did't write it, the "Target parameters" field should stay empty when Portabilizer creates new shotcut. Try to read Readme.rtf in Portabilizer folder, perheaps that helps.
By the way, I have Windows XP. If you have Vista, that could explain these admin/installer problems.

As we've said countless

As we've said countless times....if you point users to one of the menu mods, be sure to mention that it is NOT supported by PortableApps.com and is NOT an official application

Rename a exe

Hello Group;

Edited: 12 / 30 / 2008

What I have done is to rename the unwanted "exe" files. I usually Rename them to, "ex_".

I only do this for the Openoffice files I do not want to show up in the PAM. Then if you ever do want them just go back and rename them to "exe". I usually only use the write part of Openoffice. Just do not rename the "openofficeportable.exe". If you do nothing launches.

The above mentioned "exe" file is the one that launches a Gui in which you can pick what you want. But I have not found any way to get it to be picked up by PAM. It would be a nice option for a future release. Then you would only have one PAM entry. I use only Write and Calc. So I do rename the others that I do not want to show up. Hope this helps any one with similar desires.

PAM 1.5 and OOo 3.0.1

It's nice to have the feature to hide apps in the new version, but OfficePortable.exe doesn't display in the menu. I was under the impression that this was fixed in OOo 3.0.1. Did something change in PAM 1.5?

No

The issue is not with the PortableApps.com Platform. The issue is that OpenOffice.org Portable itself is define to NOT show the main OpenOffice.org launcher when set in multiple icon mode (which is the default on the Platform). This is actually a holdover from when OpenOffice.org did the same thing on Windows (version 2.0 and under) and will be changed in the next release of OO.o Portable.

There is an option in the PortableApps.com Platform to switch multiple icon apps into single icon mode, though (see "Show Single App Icon"):

Thanks. I overlooked that.
