Portable Eraser is NOT portable and installs items to other than a thumb drive

I downloaded Eraser to my thumb drive, I had it install "only" to my thumb drive but yet it adds itself to my add/remove programs in Vista as well as registry entries; what gives?

I downloaded it from here https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/eraser_portable and as I stated above, it did NOT install JUST to my thumb drive but also added registry entries and also to add/remove programs so I uninstalled it from my thumb drive and my computer account it is not "portable" as advertised.

Portable Firefox and Portable Thunderbird installs "only" on my thumb drive and no where else. I was lead to believe that Eraser would be the same but no prob as it is gone/uninstalled and I will try to find something else that is "portable".

What Keys?

Hey tenofhearts12, and welcome to the PortableApps.com Forums. Smile

I just checked having never used Eraser or Eraser portable on my machine, and it doesn't seem like any keys are added beside the MRU cache items. The only way I can see registry entries were added if you selected it to run on startup or to add the context menu to explorer. Did you do either of those?

Please let us know which keys were added, and we will try to resolve the issue. All software is bound to have bugs, and PortableApps.com is typically quick to fix bugs on the free software we distribute. So please help us help you. Thanks.

I never set it up or ran it

I never set it up or ran it other than just running the install routine and had it install to my thumb drive.

It surprised me to see that it showed up in my add/remove program and the registry entries; when I saw that it had done the above I immediately uninstalled it without ever using the program.

I believe if you install it on a thumb drive and on a Vista machine you will see what it does; a friend of mine did the same as I did on their thunb drive and pc and with the same results.

I downloaded and installed it

I downloaded and installed it again so I could give you the info you requested and for some strange reason (which I am happy about) it did not add anything this time (3rd install) so will let you know if anything changes for me or the other person who had the same prob. Weird account I did not do anything different than the first 2 attempts.

thanks
