I'm running Windows XP SP2, and whenever I try to open OpenOffice 2.0.1 it doesn't work. I see the PortableOpenOffice splash screen, but nothing else happens. I tried soffice.exe, but that didn't work. I'm stuck, and the new apparently-very-cool app is lost to me... On the bright side, 1.5 still works. Curious...
After running PortableOpenOffice.exe, open the file bootstrap.ini. It should be located in PortableOpenOffice\openoffice\program. Look for a line that UserInstallation. It should be something like this:
UserInstallation=file:///X:/PortableOpenOffice/settings
Also, verify that your PortableOpenOffice/settings directory has been created. Let me know what you find. Also, let me know what language version of Windows you are using and what directory you are placing Portable OpenOffice in. That may help me figure out your issue.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Both those things I have found in my app. The line is there, and the settings directory has been created. I am using the standard Windows in English, and i have placed the app in My Documents for now. I haven't modified the app in any way since I downloaded it...
What does your UserInstallation line in the bootstrap.ini say? Copy n paste it into your reply.

I know, I placed it in a lot of folders, but I am an unusual individual...
I thought maybe your path was just too long. I recreated your path here but couldn't reproduce your error. It started up just fine. Does your username in XP contain any special characters? (anything besides letters, numbers and spaces, that is)

absolutely nothing...
I should also mention that I saw something else in my bootstrap as well...
[ErrorReport]
ErrorReportPort=80
ErrorReportServer=report.services.openoffice.org
I wonder if that has to do with anything...
I tried moving the app into My Documents, and it worked...
Well, my weirdness and stupidity speaks for itself. Thanks for your help, I wouldn't have tried to move it up if you hadn't mentioned it...
Still curious about the error message, though
It's the settings for reporting errors within OO.o back to the developers.
Glad it's working for you. Wish we could figure out exactly what it was. If you figure anything out, please let me know.
If you could private message me your username, it would help me recreate your exact path so I can at least explore all avenues from my end.

If I move all of my PortableOpenOffice.org files to My Documents, and then open all of them, if I move thm back to my other folder they'll work perfectly now, and will continue to work...
OO.o doesn't like really long paths when creating its settings. So, either use it once in a shorter path, or download the default settings patch I just released.

John

I have tried the patch and moving the folder to the root of the drive. When I execute PortableOpenOffice.exe, nothing happens. When I go to the OpenOffice folder in the Apps folder, I can click the individual executables and the splash screen comes up and then goes away. Any clues as to what may be wrong. It doesn't work from the Hard drive or thumb drive. Running Windows XP Pro w/ SP2.
Thanks.
