.. what am I doing wrong? I can start it up alright and it says it is connecting to the websiter but thats all I get. It's like it can not find the Internet connection. I tried to search here on the forum and google, but I must be using the wrong words. Please can you help this newby?

It's a public computer, so it probably connects to the Web through a proxy server. Your copy of Portable Firefox isn't set up for their proxy, so it won't connect. If you can, check the proxy settings on the library computer's default browser, and copy them into PFF. (in Firefox, the proxy settings are under Preferences -> General -> Connection Settings) If it still doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you.

Well I ran the get proxy but it's telling me there is no proxy being used.
Any other ideas?
Have a firewall specifically blocking it. I had this problem with an installed app a while back because I wanted to make sure it wasn't phoning home. I had put it in the black list, and forgot about it for a time.
If this is the case, I'm really not sure that there's much to be done about it, except maybe approaching your administrator.

at work. It tells me no proxy but there is a proxy used in IE. I used that proxy info to setup PFF.
I will see if I can garner that info from IE.
I remember quite a few buttons being restricted.
In my case there is a proxy.pac file specified in IE > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings. Specifying the same file in PFF allows that to work.
I can browse to the file and see it's contents. I'm not familiar with how the proxy files work but I can pretty much follow what it's doing.
Lemme check if I can pull that from the registry, too. If that's the case, I can probably update the tool to let the user know about that. And, eventually, be able to automatically use that in Portable Firefox.
