FYI: Tbird copied ALL my old mail to C:\Docs&Settings?!?

I just happened to be using Search to find all the biggest files on the C: drive (leave filename blank, make size over 30000), when I came upon something that surprised the heck outta me:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\1****rar.default\Mail\Local Folders

This file contained ALL my old OE mail, including my huge Sent folder which goes back to 2004.

The filedate of 10/08 agrees, as I remember it, with downloading Thunderbird Portable, installing it to a flashdrive, and importing the WAB & all old mail to the flashdrive.

I don't understand how this file got created, but I've never had Tbird on this machine before, so I'm guessing it had something to do with that import session.

The Portable Apps info assumes a basic familiarity with Tbird, which I don't have- I was trying to offload from OE, and then migrate to portable usage.

THE PROBLEM: besides not knowing how this happened, I don't know where all the copies of this email archive even are... System Restore, Backups, cabs, etc.

Can someone explain how to reset T-bird to no footprints?

First I would not do anything

First I would not do anything with this till John has a look at this.

What I think might have happened is that that version TBP was not tested in an import situation and that as part of the process the folders and files created were not ones that it was programed to look for and delete. I don't know if it would happen with the current version.

Is all of your mail imported from OE now in your TBP ?

If so, it should be safe to delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Thunderbird\

while TBP is NOT RUNNING !!!

The problem will probably not recur unless you do an other "import"

Again, I would not do anything till John has a chance to reply, I could be completely wrong about this.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
