Firefox Portable 1.5.0.5 Pre-Release - Testers Needed

I've posted a pre-release of 1.5.0.5 for testing. This includes all of the new features and fixes present in the 1.5.0.4 Pre-Release with the updated 1.2.0.2 launcher (read for full details) as well as a couple bug fixes:
- Bug Fixed: "copy file failed" issue if run for the first time in Windows 95
- Bug Fixed: Blank profile used if run for the first time within Wine

This also debuts what will be the new name of the application: Mozilla Firefox - Portable Edition... or... Firefox Portable for short. This new name has been approved by Mozilla to be the name of the product going forward. It's designed to indicate that it is an unaltered, official copy of Mozilla Firefox, but that there are additions to it made by PortableApps.com to make it portable.

I've already tested it within Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP and Vista. As well as running within Wine under Ubuntu 6.06. (Yes, you read that right, Firefox Portable is now tested and will work under Wine going forward.) Any additional testing that anyone else can do before the release is greatly appreciated.

Download Firefox Portable 1.5.0.5 Pre-Release

Thanks!
John

I'll give it a go right now,

I'll give it a go right now, John. Saw on CNN a few days ago that most of you NYC Critters (pun intended) had power back, except about 2000 in Queens. Hope thats not your area. Glad things are turning around for ya!

EDIT: I can't do much to test wine as I'm back to a fresh vanilla XP install, as I just upgraded my hd. I might install ubuntu tonight and try it. I used Liberta Sync with it, did a speedtest, and a couple of StumbleUpons, and works fine. Sorry, not in a good tester position right now.

Testing it out now. Though you should nix that hyphen in there. I like "Mozilla Firefox Portable Edition" better than "Mozilla Firefox - Portable Edition." Hyphens make for unappealing titles.

Edit: Seems to work fine. Like I said, though, get rid of that hyphen in the title if at all possible. Though I personally wish you could still call it "Portable Firefox"... I prefer that name above all the others. Oh well. Nothing much you can do about it. Stupid Mozilla...

Yes...

The local pluginreg.dat is a known issue. If you search the forums, you'll find mention of it all over the place. There's a fix for it, but the solution can cause more problems than it fixes.

Non Firefox Portable Issue

I seem to be having some issues with extensions being recognized and/or working properly. I was just waiting till I could produce it reliably till posting it. I'm testing the new release and the beta at the same time, and oddly enough, Beta 2.0 worked without a hitch, so I know the profile is not corrupted. (I re-imported the same one several times into both.) As a matter of course, btw, I delete the extensions.rdf file at each upgrade. I'll try a brand-new profile tomorrow. This does sound like an issue of Firefox itself, I just thought you guys may want to know.

The extensions that are giving me problems are:

- AutoLogin 0.2
- bookmarklets_menu 2005.04.25
- eBay Toolbar 0.2
- Firesomething 1.7.0
- LinkVisitor 1.2.20050417
- Search engine manager 0.6
- Skeleton Access Key 0.1
- TargetAlert 0.8.9.4
- TiddlySave 0.4

Ashes

Edit:

There is one extension that won't work it beta 2:

- Internet Explorer XP 1.5
And there are some odd visual effects going on with the menu toolbar mouse-over, but like I said, I'm pretty sure it's FF itself. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

The "Version 2002" bit was more than a little superfluous, Ashes. Windows XP is Windows 2002. Microsoft just decided to give it a fancier name this time around ("Vista" is fancier still... perhaps too fancy. Personally I wish they would have stuck with the year nomenclature).

LOL

Has anyone noticed, or is it just me, that normal Firefox didn't work on partial update this time round?

Worked fine for me. I have a local copy of FF installed on my laptop, and the partial update from 1.5.0.4 to 1.5.0.5 went off without a hitch.

Same here. I was surprised.

Same here. I was surprised. I usually have to download the full update. The only difference this time was that I had ~800 MB free, though I wasn't tight on space before.

And Ashes, I'm having no trouble with Firesomething. Mozilla Superhawk runs perfectly. Smile

Superhawk. Hey, that's a cool name! I may just name my game engine that!
