it is illegal, well this is matter of personal attitude, but those rar files circulating in the net claiming to have avast 4.8 portable which I met so far contained just rubbish, not really functioning and messing up whole system.
After short play with one of them, I had to recover the system partition from image...

mine it's illegal but it is a portable version of the anti virus avast, it's not just some application, it's amazing, but i guess i can't share it with you guys
with this, it is the same build (4.8.1296) which I did test and had to restore my system drive from backup image.
It is not portable in fact, someone tried apparently to 'thinstall' it, but some apps seem not to survive well this procedure.
It is not really portable in fact, try to take clean PC and run the regshot over it and compare after when run this version. You will be surprised what mess it is leaving on your system.
Such things were build to register as services, when trying to run them otherwise, you might do more harm then without it.
In this particularly, lot things are started from where ever, it is difficult to stp them and remove them from the system, keys in the registry are protected and can not be removed etc.

you're right, someone tried to thinstall it but some applications seem not to survive well this procedure, thanks for the info.
