Hello everybody,
I often have to create splitted archives which has to be compatible to Winzip. So in the past I used Winzip to create these archives. But I would like to switch to 7-Zip when creating these archives. The porblem is, when I create a splitted archive with Winzip I get these Files, e.g:
File.zip
File.z01
File.z02
When I create a splitted archive with 7-zip I get these Files:
File.zip.001
File.zip.002
File.zip.003
Which I can not open with Winzip. Does anyone have an idea how I can solve this problem?
Best Regards,
Klaus.
did you try simply to rename them so?
sometimes such dirty tricks help

If i remeber correctly Win zip doesnt support multipart ZIP files. RAR's and 7zips by the stndars can handle multipar compression techniques. you will just have to use a different format. If i remeber correctly Win Zip 7 was able to handle multipart RAR files.
Hi Mir,
you are right, Winzip did not support multipart Zip-Files until Version 11. Version 12 which I downloaded for testing, does support multipart Zip-Files. I will test the renaming, maybe it helps.
Thanks so far.

Perhaps you could say more about why you must use WinZip to open those archives, and why you want to use 7-zip to create them?
I'm not doubting that you do need to distribute your files to people who have properly licensed WinZip; I'm just trying to learn why.
You know, of course, that 7-zip can be distributed for free.
I'd also expect that however WinZip does it will be adopted soon by other programs.
Meanwhile, I'll scratch my head in wonder at the way that 7-zip implemented it's multifile archive naming scheme. Sigh.

Hello rab040ma,
the receveirs, only have Winzip to open my archives. But sometimes I have to sent them some Gigabytes, so I wanted to compress them with 7-Zip, because 7-Zip (not portable, maybe also but I do not know allright) is free to use in a company. So it would reduce cost for us, when we install 7-zip on the users PC instead of installing Winzip, because for Winzip we have to buy licences first.
I think I will wait for the new 7-Zip Version maybe it works then!?
Best Regards,
Klaus.
I don't think the author of 7-Zip is going to implement it in the next version but there is always hope though
