Opinions will differ. I

Opinions will differ. I suggest trying both apps and form an opinion your self :).
1 thing I'll tell you is that Pidgin supports multiple IM Protocols and aMSN just the msn protocol.
PIdgin doesn't support webcams
aMSN does support webcams. I could go on but like I said try them out and form your own opinion Smile

I use multiple protocols so I use pidgin but...

From what I've noticed Pidgin does just fine where aMSN tends to be super ober slow for some odd reason. And kinda glitchy.

I found aMSN slow too...and thanks Zach

I found aMSN slow too...I run Vista Ultimate, 2.66Ghz and 2.5 Gb RAM.

And thanks Zach...honestly if someone didn't suggest that, I'd have been too lazy to actually try out both.

I love Pidgin a lot more (I don't really need the web-cam function portable, I got Skype on my home computer). Pidgin has a lot better GUI, and the GTK skins doesn't mess up the interface like with aMSN. Honestly, I now recommend Pidgin Portable to for IM, if anyone wants an opinion.

But I still miss the Windows Live look and feel; but hey, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Now I wonder what's Miranda like? Too bad I'm too lazy to get off my but and try it:-P........No really, I am. Any opinions?

about Miranda

honest guess... I think you'd HATE it Smile

Out of the box, it is one of the ugliest, least user-friendly, least intuitive, least featureful applications I've used in a while.

Almost all of what you can do with it involves finding, installing, trialling, uninstalling, re-finding, re-installing plugins and addons. Which means that you can make it do almost anything if you have the patience.

I've been using it in preference to Gaim/Pidgin or Trillian Pro (which I'm still a fully paid up licencee of) for a couple of years now, and I absolutely adore it. It took me weeks to get it exactly how I wanted it, but then, I'm over-picky Wink

But going back to my first comment, if you do want to try it out, be prepared to invest some time in it, or you won't see it at its best, so laziness (*grin*) is likely to leave you not liking it.

Good guess

I've tried it before and couldn't stand it. It was too hard to set up. It was about as cute as a pug dog's butt, and for some random reason it won't connect to a few of my protocalls. All the info was right but it just didn't work.... Did I mention it was UGLY?
