Geek.Menu was a menu developed by a community member, maggotb0y. He's now (perhaps) one of the developers on the official menu. Lifehacker just happens to be featuring his project.

So the user at Life Hacker is just writting a review of the Geek.Menu developed by one of the users here.
Is PAM the original launcher?
I know geek.menu and PAM R34 MOD are forks, but what about Ceedo? It can't be a fork since it's paid and not open source (and looks a heck of a lot different). And what about U3?
As for copyright, the PortableApps.com Menu (and forks) are FOSS (Free Open Source Software) and it's OK to take the source code, change it up, and redistribute it with another name, you've just got to, I'm pretty sure, give credit to the original authors and/or all contributors. Lovely thing about open source.
Oh, and the article says in the first sentence (come on - the first sentence!) that geek.menu is a fork of the official PortableApps.com menu.
