Portable Corel DRAW X3

Hi,

I wonder if somebody is able to create a portable CorelDRAW X3 Version.
I understand that its not possible to post a working app here due to licence reasons.

BUT - maybe just an instruction how to create one's own version like the Photoshop CS2 thread by aniperleo on April 11, 2006 (https://portableapps.com/node/1426) would be already a big big help!

I read that there is a Portable Illustrator version available, but I'd preferr to have my Corel DRAW X3 working on the USB stick.

Thanks in Advance

Yes, it would be very nice!

Yes, it would be very nice! I tried to make it portable but it's too hard for me. But if guys were able to make Quark 7 and Illustator CS portable I think we shouldn't be waiting too much for an usb-version.

Btw, corel9 h.a.s. a portable version... I will post a link for the launcher after testing it a bit more.

I'd remove that link before John does. Sharing that is illegal. That is copyrighted software, and that's not allowed here. You should re-post it with just the launcher and instructions.

Yah, my bad. It disappears when you reply to a post. I should have replied under the OP's post.

What the heck is NetPumper? Some kind of spyware? Whatever it is, it's certainly not Corel Draw 9--which is probably a good thing, considering the copyright issues involved.

From what I can tell, It's a download manager that the hosting site recommends. The Corel d/l is farthur down.

Corel 9 launcher source code

Hopefully this won't violate any legal issues:

http://www.hemenpaylas.com/download/1288198/Portable.Corel.9.Source.rar....

There's a small readme file with instructions. You have to compile launchers yourself with NSIS. And, of course, have a copy of Corel 9 with a valid serial number.
Maybe you will have to choose the "portable" workspace after the first launch, I didn't test this version.

Please remove the link I posted earlier. Thanks.

Although I made "significant

Although I made "significant steps" towards making a more up-to-date version of portable Corel, at this time there's several problems that seem to be hard to beat off.

The process is not quite the same as in the case of corel 9. It stores almost all settings in the registry. I managed to launch it while it was not installed locally, but previously I had to import more than 8000(!) registry entries...
However, it stores registry keys in HKLM and HKCR (+HKCU), which is not a great "portable" feature Smile

A bigger problem is that it stores some user settings in the %appdata% folder and I have no idea how to change it. Maybe it's hard-coded.

So I gave up with experimentation. Apart from that, I believe that someone will make a portable version of it. The sooner the better.

For portability, you can (barely) get away with an application storing registry entries in HKLM and HKCR (which is actually just an alias for a subkey of HKLM and stores both file associations and COM classes) if you have a "registry emulator" like the one Steve Lamerton is working on... but if a program stores files in %APPDATA% as part of its normal operation, you're up the creek. There's a workaround for that, too, but it often does more harm than good.

That's good. Smile Just make sure you don't use the "solution" John used to use of changing the USERPROFILE/APPDATA environment variables--it's caused more problems than it's solved.

I'll hook it like I am with the registry.
