I was in the process of saving to my .tsk file and the program crashed. When I opened Task Coach this morning I noticed that I lost everything. This is probably a bug in the program itself, not a PAM problem, I just wanted to let you guys know that this issue exists. I'm running Windows XP SP 3.
Remember that Task Coach is pre-1.0 so it will have issues like this. I hope you have a recent backup to restore from as recommended.
For all... this is why it's always important to back up your settings. You'll note this on the Task Coach Portable homepage:
Pre-1.0 Release Note: This is pre-1.0 software and may have occasional bugs. Backing up your data regularly using the easy-to-use backup utility in the PortableApps.com Platform is recommended.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Did you do anything notable when it crashed, or it was just while you were saving the file?
It was just while I was saving the file. It's no big deal as it's slow at work right now so I don't have any urgent tasks. I've been using this software for quite a while now and this is the first time I've ever had an issue.
I logged an error a long time back on this forum but it didn't get any response.
I've tested each release of Task Coach Portable since then and none of them has worked. It's a pity, it's a feature I would really find usefull - i.e. to be able to create tasks from emails messages by dropping them on a Task Coach window.
Anyway, if you are interested, this is what happens. I drag a message onto Task Coach window and drop - nothing happens. When I close Task Coach I get a dialog to tell me errors have occurred. Looking at the log (below) it seems that it's having problems finding and/or parsing my Thunderbird Portable profile.
Thanks.

Doc, it hurts when I do this.
Don't do that.
Seriously, though, this is pre-1.0 software. If you have a specific feature you want like drag and drop, ask the author.

I don't know, based on that stack trace, it looks like it's already implemented (evidenced by the fact that it's calling into a "thunderbird.pyo"), but buggy. But yeah, this isn't specific to the portable version, so he'll have to file a bug report on the actual Task Coach bug tracker, not here.
With pre-1.0 software, there will be 'features' that just don't work that you should avoid. This would be one of em. So, "don't do that".

It's not a feature request - the feature has existed for a long time (look in Task Coach help, there's a section on creating tasks from emails).
It's just that Task Coach can't handle this in a Portable Apps environment, i.e. when Thunderbird is also a Portable app. Task Coach looks in the wrong place for the users profile (it looks on the computer disk in Documents and settings/.. etc.).

In that case, you should contact the author as it appears their app simply doesn't work with Thunderbird Portable and you'd like it to. Perhaps Patrick can assist as he has had some contact with them.
I removed your duplicate post from the news story. Posting the same thing over and over in multiple places is not the way to get people to pay attention to your issue. It only annoys others.

Patrick: thanks! If it helps: on the same system drag'n drop works fine with Outlook, it's only task Coach's Thunderbird Portable profile handling that seems to be broken.
John: Why so negative? I'm just reporting bugs, it's supposed to help. I also clearly invited you to remove the duplicate posting. As I said, last time around (several months back) I didn't get any response for this bug so I wasn't sure if I'd posted it in the wrong place. I really don't want to annoy anyone!
I've never had a use for this, personally, but it should be a priority. I'll give it a shot with the local versions first, and then on to the portable versions. Give me a few days to get things tested.
I gave it a shot with local to local, local to portable, and portable to portable. Unfortunately, he keeps yelling at me and complaining my password is wrong (which is a philthy lie!). I'm going to try a different email account before I send out a 0.71.4 pre-release.
Update: I submitted a bug report, and they've said it should be fixed for the next release. I know there was a thread dedicated to this issue, but I can't find it.
