Manual upgrade to 3.0.1?

Hi there!

I was wondering, is there any possibility to do a manual upgrade to the newest version of OpenOffice.org?
For example to download a copy of 3.0.1 and just replace the "OpenOffice"-folder in the PortableApps-version with the new one?

As with version 3 I encountered a very long delay between the official version and the portable ones. So I'd like to do a workaround in between.

However the above mentioned method does not work.
Anyone knows how to do it or is the only possibility just to wait till the official version comes out?

Best regards and thanks for the PortableApps-suite - wouldn't want to miss it!

Not Really

You'd also need to move in the support files (MSVCRT) and your copy wouldn't be supported and wouldn't have the latest launcher. And would be larger than it needs to be.

We're waiting for all the translations to be completed. Unlike Mozilla apps, OpenOffice.org does a staggered release. They say "3.0.1 is released!" but it's only out in English and German. A couple days later French and Italian show up. A few days later another. Etc. We're just waiting until all the versions are up to do our release so we don't have to do multiple "releases" and announcements. Not to mention testing that it all works first. It's far better than catering to version-junkies Smile and rushing something out with bugs like others do.

That would be too long way

I can understand what you mean, but there is a problem.
Reading Japanese OOo mailing lists, Japanese official 3.0.1 is likely to be skipped.
(If released, that will be a couple of weeks later or so.)

So, please go ahead with RC2 version.

Strange Install Issue

I just attempted to upgrade to the 3.01 OpenOffice Portable and had a strange issue installation issue occur.
1. Plugged in my USB drive - Did NOT startup PortableApps
2. Went to Explorer, double clicked on the OpenOffice 3.01 Portable Installer in my C: drive and the install screen started.
3. Came to the screen where the Destination drive and directory are shown and received the following message -
"Please close all instances of OpenOffice.org PE and then click OK. The portable app cannot be upgraded while it is running"
4. This is my office machine and I do not have OpenOffice installed and/or operating on that machine so its not seeing another installation.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

could it be ...

that Staroffice or another Office based on OpenOffice.org is installed and running?
Please check with the taskmanager for "soffice.exe". This is the running process the installer is looking for.

It Was

Marko:
I had gone back, suspicious person that I am, and checked on Processes Running with the Task Manager.
I noticed that soffice.exe was running, shut it down, and the install worked.
Doing a little investigating it turns out that Lotus Notes (which we use at my office) has a file soffice.exe that it uses in its operation. So, even though I wasn't running OpenOffice - OpenOffice thought I was running OpenOffice (confusing isn't it).

This problem could happen to others who might be running Lotus Notes so it might be a good idea to put it in the OpenOffice Install notes.
Thanks for your help.

You're right ;-)

Lotus Symphony is based on OpenOffice.org 1.x ;-), and swriter aka starwriter is part of nearly all packages based on a version of OpenOffice.org.

At the moment I collect all hints in oder to update the support pages
