PortableApps.com Menu features

How about a password protection on the PortableApps.com Menu if the computer's idle for a period of time or when the screensaver activates? Especially if you walk away from your computer and don't want anyone to access it. Also how about themes or at least change the color of the menu?

Thanks,

Chris

IDK about

the password protection, but if you'll try the little search box up in the upper right hand corner, you'll find that the PortableApps.com menu can be themed and changed in color. There are many themes floating about, even some websites dedicated to themes. http://ptc.kain-planet.de/ should be your first stop. Don't forget to search for the instructions as well, there is a way to do it and it's easy as pie. Smile

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for the info about the themes. Password protection could be an option that you can activate if you want. If you don't want it, you just let it be.

Thanks,

Chris

Activate it!

Well, if you DO want to activate it, how would you go about doing it?

Password protection for what?

Password protection for what? To use the menu? All the menu does is launch apps. Anyone with half a brain can just explore your flash drive with Windows Explorer and launch your apps or view your docs regardless of a password prompt on the menu.

Now if you mean your flash drive as a whole, look at TrueCrypt, or better yet, look at geek.menu, a fork of the PortableApps menu which includes it. TrueCrypt has some caveats to consider (mostly that you'd need admin access to use it) and so does geek.menu (it's based on old PA code and unsupported here) but both are used by many successfully, so it's not all that bad.

Using TrueCrypt to Lockdown Portable Drive

I would have to agree that password protection of the menu is somewhat useless. Few people would be stopped by that. However, I do have a password protection system on my device using TrueCrypt. I have TrueCrypt extracted to my USB drive, and then I created an encrypted file container that takes up the remainder of the free space. The Autorun.inf command is "TrueCrypt.exe /v PADRIVE /a /m rm /explore". This automatically prompts me for the password to unlock my Portable Apps drive.

Beware that you can't have Truecrypt set to dismount the device when the system goes to standby, else you might foul things up.

I then realized that this is almost exactly what U3 does.

Limits are for people with no imagination.

unfortunately...

Truecrypt requires admin privileges to use...
