I just got a SanDisk 16GB Contour. It has U3 on it, but i do not like U3 is there any way to replace U3 with Portable Apps, So that upon insertion instead of U3 popping up it is PortableApps

Removing U3 is easy enough, it is an option in the Launchpad Setting menu.
Adding PortableApps to the device is easy enough, making PortableApps start automatically isn't.

Although I don't recommend auto-run (for various security reasons), you can remove U3, and then use PStart (which I use and love). Simply modify / create an auto-run file that will start Pstart so it acts like U3.
But again I advise against auto-run because viruses / worms are taking advantage of auto-run to spread itself.
You can remove the U3 software with the uninstall utility but back up any data on the drive first as it will remove your data.
You can then install the PortableApps.com Platform from our site easily. We recommend installing the Platform only and then adding the apps you want individually:
https://portableapps.com/suite
When inserted, your new PortableApps.com drive will popup the Windows autoplay handler screen and you can just hit enter as "Start PortableApps.com" will be the first entry:

You can't have it start automatically (without that popup), but autorun is being phased out anyway due to security reasons. CDs and USB drives with fake CD partitions like U3 won't autorun on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or future Microsoft operating systems. Most public, university and work PCs have autorun disabled for the same reason (I recommend home users do as well).
On your own PC, you can install a utility that will start the PortableApps.com Platform up automatically. I have a test one I posted. You can set the one with no interface to start with your PC if you'd like. It'll be a more full-featured utility that's part of the platform soon.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

No utility needed, to be found or downloaded, the option to remove is a part of the U3 Launchpad menu.

Interesting.

Autorun for ALL CD-type things is an *exceedingly* bad idea. Remember how Sony installed nasty software from audio CDs? So, it's been killed. It's gone in Vista and Windows 7 so the whole fake CD partition on a USB drive doesn't help you autorun anymore.
The utility is being designed to only run our software. U3 and Ceedo have one as well. Ours won't autorun CDs or other stuff, just the PortableApps.com Platform.

Here's a great link to discuss the vulnerability of autorun, and smarter hackers using social engineering to fool Windows users.

Scary!
Yeah, that could fool a less technical user. But that "Publisher Not Specified" should be a warning. Maybe they'll add a warning icon to that in Windows 7 and Vista SP2.

The thing is that i know that the computers i have to use do have Auto-Tun enabled. and i do not want to remove the fake CD partition i want it so start Portable apps, i remember that i read something about it awhile ago. Thanks
This is meant to replace the U3 launchpad on the CD-ROM and
allows you to start whatever app you like :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/u3-autorun/
Have a look at SmithTech's site http://usb.smithtech.us/tutorials/index.php
for a lot of useful info and also some nice apps ..
Be careful to use the proper update-tool when you re-write the CD-ROM,
if you use an outdated version there is a chance it will only recognise
and use 4GB !!
As John T Haller mentions, one of the things that makes autorun really bad is
that it allows everything to run (or nothing). .
However, "autorun" is also a very convenient feature for a lot of purposes and
it's just a fact of life that quite a few people insist on utilizing it,
so here's a little suggestion for a safer way to do it,
only problem is that it needs to be installed on the host..
Uwe Sieber has made a nice utility called " USB Drive Letter Manager "(USBDLM)
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html
One of the nice things it can do is replace the microsoft autoplay/run-handler .
"USBDLM" let's you specify the devices allowed to perform autorun and
the devices can be identified using various criteria, one of them being the USB-serial number. If the manufacturer complies with the USB-specifications this should be a unique number but in any case, the chances of two flash-drives having identical sr# is slim.
You can also specify a drive-letter (or range of letters) to mount a device to and again, the device can be identified by sr# or a bunch of other criteria . It also has some rather neat features for use with U3-type drives,
(=all flash-drives with CD-ROM capability)
f.ex it can "hide" the CD-ROM-letter in "explorer" .
I have found USBDLM to be incredibly useful and it has tons of nice features,
highly recommended for admins, power-users, tweakers, tinkers and developers ..
It's free for private use but not Open Source,
the only fault I've found so far
