What version of XP are you using? I'm using XP Pro, svc pack 3, and it works just fine.
Also, let it send the crash info to Microsoft. After it does that, it will tell you what the exact error is. Post it here.
Working for me on XP SP3 without a hitch.

Hi, I am using 2.05 in XP Svc ack 3 and it does not start. Please provide a link to download 2.04 again. The following txt is produced by the error:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"??>
Having the same problem here with 2.05 and XP SP3.
using XP SP2.
Something is not good......
Have downgraded to 2.04 and normal service is resumed.
If you go to Toucan on Sourceforge you'll be able to download the previous version.

I have XP pro sp2 stripped with nlite and no updates after sp2.
Toucan 2.0.5 works fine.
sync works without restrictions or errors..
I´ll test it on restricted account later on and come back.
Possible causes -> AV scanner? Broken download or corrupt download source?

"May The Schwartz be with You!" Yogurt the Yoda
is my only sensible guess, an AV scanner.
EDIT: Actually in theroy it could be some sort of out dated system DLL as well I guess
no problems, neither with Avira and F-secure

Having the same problem. I am using Win XP SP3 (German edition) with all patches available. Toucan used to work like a charm up to the version 2.0.4. Version 2.0.5 terminates itself right after the start. I disabled my AV program (Avira Free Edition latest available version) and malware protection (Threatfire latest available version) - did not help. According to Dr. Watson there is an access violation. I am eagerly waiting for a solution.
I replaced the files and folders in ".\Toucan\App\toucan" of the 2.0.5 version by the files and folders of the 2.0.4 version and it worked, thus the problem does't seem to be a problem of the wrapper but of the applications itself.
I have had another thought, it could be the upxing that messes this up, so I have put up a few different exes up here:
http://drop.io/toucanlang
In the ToucanTests.zip file. The exes need to be put in Toucan\app\toucan. If you could try them and say if any of them work I would be most grateful.
Thanks in advance
have uploaded a new exe to
http://drop.io/toucanlang
called Toucan.zip, hopefully this exe will fix the problem as I manged to reproduce this crash running a debug version of the exe under a debugger on Vista and it was crashing without the changes in this exe. You will need to extract the exe and put it under App\toucan as before.
Thanks in advance
Wow, this is quick problem solving!
So what ultimately was the problem?
Also, is the preview now made more realistic by checking the CRC just like the actual update execution?
Thanks, and awesome response!
the problem was with the splasscreen code, I have no idea why it worked on the majority of pcs though.
As for the preview, no, not in this release, it was a quick release to fix the crash, no other changes were made.
This is fixed in 2.0.6:

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thank you very much for the quick solution of the problem. The 2.0.6 seems to work fine. BTW, I would also like to thank you all for your work on this site and the apps, I am using quite a number of them.
