when your app have an

when your app have an existing reg in the settings folder , than works fine. for creating an reg file follow this steps:

after starting your app go to:

Start>Run type regedit.exe than search for:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\hugin

rightclick on folder "hugin" select "Export", chosse a savepath (.../huginPortable/Data/settings/) and name your file hugin_portable.reg
click ok and you are done Wink

Do you mean

that the ability to save settings doesn't work, or that the whole app doesn't work?
I've used it on XP, but I'll try it on W2K.
If the app works in general, but has certain things that don't work, let me know what they are, and I'll see if I can replicate them on my W2K boxes.

You're right!

At least, in W2K, it doesn't seem to keep the settings in the File>Preferences window.
It works MOST of the time in XP.
I'm not sure why - perhaps there are enough differences between the W2K and XP registry files.

Other than that, powerjuce, it works great!

I wanna check it out on a clean system...

There are a couple of exe's within that are only activated when that function is called - I'm thinking of the enblend.exe - and when it needs to run it, the app may ask you to browse to it. I want to make sure that it doesn't write reg entries at that point, but I need to try it on a clean system, so I'll check it at work today.

Seems to be OK

I ran it with no probs, and it left no reg traces.

But what is FOFP?
The help files that come with it are fairly minimalistic. All the good stuff is on their site anyway.

Autopano?

After I load images from the assistant tab, there is a prompt to locate autopano program. Is this something that needs to be downloaded separately from Hugin?
Also when I close and reopen the program, the Tip of the Day shows up even after I un-check the appropriate box.

Autopano is an optional tool...

...that automatically creates control points. It's not essential for the functionality of the program; it's not that difficult to make the control points yourself, and I like the control.
On the Hugin homepage, it lists a couple of different autopano distros that you can download.
http://hugin.sourceforge.net/download/

The problem (for us) is that the first tool has a questionable license status (it is a free version of a commercial product) and the second one is dependent on *ack* DotNet. You can download them if you want, but I don't think they can be distributed in a Hugin package.

I think this is the only tool that it prompts for that does not come with Hugin. At the final stitching step, if you choose TIFF format and choose blending, it will prompt you for enblend.exe - that is located in the huginPortable\app\hugin\enblend folder. I think it only prompts you once.

It's important to remember that Hugin is a GUI frontend for a number of command line tools, and it IS still a beta release.

Can we give this app another look over to ensure it's up to specs, and can we get it hosted somewhere other than mediafire?

Yes and Yes!

Give me a few. I'lln reply with the hosting spiel later.

Edit: I already have offered powerjuce hosting a few times. I think he has upload to one the the SourceForge projects if needed too.

Hey, I just noticed Hugin

Hey, I just noticed Hugin Portable. I used it very recently to create 5 panoramas. (Cant post the link due to self promotion though).

But while I tried manual I finally got decent results using autopano SIFT and enblend (2.5 as 3.0 didnt work for me on Win2000Pro)

But it's important to know, although Enblend and AutoPano are optional, it was the only way I could create the decent pano's.

Also I HAD to set the parameter for Enblend -l 29 to create smoothed out so the blended area was smoother. ( file > preferences > enblend > additional archuments )

Nice tool, hope you continue it!

PS to make the pano visible on the net I used PTViewer the latest build of the java app, found here: http://www.fsoft.it/panorama/ptviewer.htm

Also I found a good opensource Flash viewer but thats a bit hard to configure as it needs recompiled for each pano using Flash CS3 or the free FlexSDK (Open source too?)

PPS. I was advised to use Hugin 0.7 Beta 3 by people in the Hugin irc channel.. worked perfect!

Hugin has a new, stable version

It's very new, on the Hugin site.
It's in pre-release ( the file still has svn in the name ) but they are directing you there instead of the previous 0.7 beta 4.

I'm assuming that they will officially release the stable version pretty soon without the beta in the name.
It would be great if powerjuce or perhaps some other developer would be able to PAF it when it comes out.:-)

In the meantime, you could try one of the (non-portable apps) versions from the Hugin page.
Here's the homepage:
Hugin homepage
And the download of the latest greatest stable pre-release:
Hugin Prerelease DL
Or if you want, try the last beta, it comes in a ZIP file - be aware, it still writes to the registry:
Hugin 0.7 beta4

BTW, I've used this app, and it's very cool - AND useful!

It's been put in an Orphanage

Luckily, Oliver has saved a few of these wayward children...

Oliver's Orphanage

And the file:
Hugin Portable Dev Rel 3

Then again, if you aren't hung up on pure PA apps, there's a portable version of the latest and greatest Hugin at WinPenPack:
Hugin 0.7

Mind if I try to take this one over?

This test release is based on a beta version from a long time ago.
Nothing's moved on it in a while.
And, the DL link is a dead end.

Hugin has since had two stable releases, 0.7 and 0.8, although they haven't yet made binaries for 0.8.
It's still more than worth it to release an official PA version for 0.7, with an eye on 0.8.

This app was originally requested by me, but I've had to go to the Winpenpack release; I think I can get it working in PA format.
