Clamwin virus sig downloads

Hi,

I have installed clamwin on a flashdrive.

The programmes asked me to download the virus signatures (main.cvd). The first attempt failed.

Q1 What is main.cvd?

Restarting the programme allowed a second server to be selected, but this was taking so long to download that I had to terminate.

Q2. When I retart clamwin, will I begin where I left off, or will it restart from the begining. That is, will it resume?

Q3. Is there a way of ensuring that I get the fastest downloads? When working on a public machine, I will need a fast download so I can check my flashdrive.

Q4. How can I check to ensure that main.cvd has been installed. There was not much activity on the flasdrive.

Thanks

Hi,

there are a lot answers already posted here, just use the searchbutton..
well, since you´re new here, once again
-some PC´s don´t let you update directly, you´d have to download the database from their site http://www.clamav.net/

main.cvd is the basic list of signatures
daily.cvd is the update

you can find them within the clamwin folder under ClamwinPortable\data\db besides a third file called mirrors, main.cvd is there as main.cld and daily.cvd is called daily.cld

On first start all three files are saved under ..\db, if you can´t get them, just put the cvd files into db and you can use clamwinportable.
Some flashdrives seem to keep clamwin from updating directly, sometimes the servers can´t be reached because of a proxy or network problems. The same is with outdated main.cvd, then the time for download extends up to minutes

Hope that helps..
if you´d like to scan the PC memory on every plugin, update clamwinportable and autostart several apps you can use automemscan https://portableapps.com/node/11553

The main.cvd takes a long time to download. But the daily takes much less time.

How often will I need to download main?
Presumably, I'll need to download daily whenever I scan?

Will clamwin do the updates automatically?

Any idea how the programme functions under Windows Vista 32 bit?

Best wishes

If I'm

not mistaken, the main.cvd is sort of like a major update. It happens maybe like every couple of months, give or take. You'd need to check the Clamwin website for those to know when to update, but the daily.cvd, like you asked, would need to be updated frequently, especially before a scan is ran. I'm not a programmer, but there's this for updating, https://portableapps.com/node/7314 , this https://portableapps.com/node/8231, sublink in the same post http://clamup.co.nr/ .

Hi,

as already said main.cvd is the base signature file, updated about every two or three months (especially when the daily files are getting too big), daily.cvd is a sort of incremental update, several times a day.
Clamwin Portable doesn´t update automatically, you should do that manually once a day or use the updater/ automemscan linked to above and below in this post.
AFAIK the app works with Vista
