Personal Settings

Hello,

maybe my suggestions can be setup in one of the next Releases?

It is already possible to set a special wallpaper to be activated when
Portable Apps starts.

The root of the user profile should also be changed to the data on the usb-stick.

That means, if I open Internet Explorer there should be the favourites
and links which are stored on the usb stick. The same with Quick Launch (will be hard),
and so on.

In many cases some reg-key must been changed or updated and reset on end.
So there can be tow Files (System.reg and UserUSB.reg) which have to be executed.

I have found the reg-keys where the user-profile and all the stuff is
specified but I was not able to change them when I plug in my USB-stick.

Best Regards
Sabur

Theres this

https://portableapps.com/node/13421 and you can also change your picture to a bitmap image and place it in the "Pictures" folder of the PAM menu and it will detect and use it as your background. But: it has to be renamed to something along the lines of portableppswallpaper to work. I can't recall the name. It can be found using the little search box up in the right hand corner.

No

We don't want to go that way.

And anyway, some of those things can't be done, and the rest require admin and a restart. Also, redoing the user profile, as well as requiring a re-login, is risky, will break many local apps, will cause an unimaginable amount of trouble with your new profile and with Windows, and is just not a good idea.

So no, none of it can be done in a portable manner, and some of the more useful things are also the ones which could cause serious trouble with the system, even making being unable to login the case if the USB disk is improperly removed, or the app crashes.

Firefox

If you used a portable version of Firefox, you wouldn't have to worry about trying to "fix" issues with Internet Explorer.

Why would you want to use the local version of Internet Explorer anyway? You'd never know what version you'd run into on the computer you are using and further you wouldn't know if it was infected, corrupted, or otherwise hosed.
