If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
oh ok didn't see that

It was removed due to some experimental installer/launcher that used one file to egt info from both the installer and launcher. Due to the fact the installer and launcher used a few parts of the Official launcher and installer I removed this because my goal at that time was to have a complete separate installer/launcher that could be used for non-GPL apps as well.
So for now you have to settle for the launcher only version.
Sorry for now.
We're making the PortableApps.com Installer available for freeware and commercial developers shortly.

EDIT: Nvm, I have misread the post.
Have you had any luck with this Logan or should it be considered dropped? Hopefully someone else can come along and pick it up or your self some time in the near future

While this does look a lot better than WinBoard , it appears that they are rewriting the whole app in C++ rather than C, so it would probably be best to wait and see what changes are going to happen to the base app before someone makes a portable version.
Who knows how long such a rewrite will take? And who knows how portable it can be made then, what with their "we plan to include client-to-client networking and an enhanced user interface"?
I've downloaded it (version 0.2.0) and will test how it handles. I didn't check here first, so I just used the installer it came with to install it under the PortableApps main directory.
Refreshing the Portableapps menu made it available in the menu straight off. Will see if it still works ok once I'm on a different computer.

It turns out that it seems to use registry for storing its path info. Starting it on another computer throws an error about not being able to find files, interestingly citing the correct paths, by the looks of it.
I only found one DreamChess registry place on the computer I used for installing it, so possibly it's not as bad as it could be...
Guess I'll have to start looking inside the source files, and then start looking for how to make one of those paf installer thingies. Never done anything like that before, so I hope it's logical, transparent and straightforward...

You sure it wasn't just the fact that the drive letter changed?
...if it didn't rely on Registry for knowing it's own whereabouts, I should be able to find some location outside the registry where the path is kept.
Haven't found that so far, while I did find a corresponding entry in Registry.

Any changes Logan?
