Your right!

Its no longer a menu issue its by design!

With the new Menu its simple to switch between sigle mode (only OpenOffice.org Portable) and multi mode (only the sub launchers) and complete mode (all exes)

in appinfo.ini:
[Control]
Icons=1
Start=OpenOfficePortable.exe
Name=OpenOffice.org Portable

->(Sigle mode)

[Control]
Icons=6
Start=OpenOfficePortable.exe
Name=OpenOffice.org Portable

-> (Multi mode)

For mixed mode (all exes) You can realize it renaming appinfo.ico to appinfo7.ico and set (in appinfo.ini)
[Control]
Icons=7
Start7=OpenOfficePortable.exe
Name7=OpenOffice.org Portable

So You are able to switch between all modes to the one You'll prefere.

Paid for Software more or less?
What You need is OSS!

Better

Even better. In the final release, I added an option to the Menu where you can set ShowSingleIconForMultiIconApps=true and it'll only show a single icon for apps like OpenOffice.org Portable.

Another vote for categories/folders

Though, I hoped to provide more feedback so as not to be lumped in with the other guy up there. The size of the menu is fine for 128-256MB sticks, but when you have a few GB's, the temptation to install a few "once in a while" apps grows, and then you have more than it can display at any one time. I had my R34 MOD menu set just right, too - I had my everyday apps uncategorized, so they showed all the time. Everything else was in (3) categories, and the everyday apps plus one opened folder (even Utilities, which has the most entries) still doesn't make it scroll. And of course OpenOffice as well as any other app which has more than one .exe in its root folder (and hasn't got a launcher for it) is another argument.

So I take it categories/folders isn't an "if", it's a "when", right?

Then... Hiding vs. Removing vs. Renaming to "-". One thing the R34 mod does right is the option to "Remove" an app... but it only lets you choose the Remove option when it wants to, which is once in a blue moon (or less). The "Hide" option is OK, since there's also a "Hide/Unhide" switch where you can toggle display of hidden apps on and off. It's like an invisible category that you can make show up on command. Back to the official mod, I'm willing to bet that renaming to "-" is a quick fix to be replaced by a GUI feature later. Who's going to remember that besides dedicated and bleeding-edge testers? Surely not the general public.

What I think would answer that issue would be a permanent removal option - an app shows up, e.g. in discovery, when the menu first establishes what apps it will be indexing; we don't want it there, ever, so we Remove it, and then a note is made in the database or INI or whatever it'll use that that .exe is not to be loaded, and it's never seen again. The hide/unhide thing I think is unnecessary, especially if the Remove option works right and categories/folders are implemented.

Onto what worked:

I do like the new graphics; it's a little darker, kind of a smoky glass effect. The folders looked good, and it was nice that it renamed my "Video" folder to "Videos" for its own use. (The R34 mod requires you to rename it to "Video" to work with the menu, silly bug, but easily defeated.)

For the R34 MOD user this is both a step back but also a sign of things to come. For the PortableApps.com Official Menu loyalists, it's a well-deserved update, and of course a sign of things to come as well.

Keep up the good work, it's shaping up nicely.

Coming

As previously announced, categories will be coming in a later release. This was gonna be 1.2, 1.5 would finish the theming switching and autorun apps on start/exit. Then 2.0 would add advanced theming (altered layouts, etc) and categories. This is still the plan but we've changed the versions to 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 instead of 1.2, 1.5, 2.0 to better reflect the number of enhancements.

Categories in the platform will be a little different. Your PAF apps will be assigned to all the official categories by default, the same ones in the app directory, and based on how they are categories by the developer/publisher in their appinfo.ini. Non-PAF apps will be set to Other by default. You can then move them around, define your own categories, etc from there. In addition, you can set certain apps to appear in the base menu (outside categories) either above or below the category list which is handy for everyday apps. There are some other options that will be available in that respect and they'll be announced later.

As to hide vs remove... you're only hiding the icon... remove would imply removing the EXE from the drive (which we are NOT doing). Hide is much more appropriate. And, as you mentioned, is driven by the INI and apps that are hidden the menu checks if they are hidden before it even bothers trying to load their info. You can also remove apps, which is truly removing... hence the nomenclature distinction. The rename to "-" is a quick fix until we get the GUIs done with translations. We're in 34 languages and didn't want to wait for it to get the release out.

Release Candidate 4

This release fixed renaming of non-PAF apps not persisting between sessions as well as some localization issues. The installer will properly detect an old running version of the menu. I also added a Greek translation.

On-click missing

When you click on an app in the menu, you don't get the normal color feedback from the previous menu that the item was clicked. I hope you know what I mean. Catch me on IRC if you don't Smile

no bug..

don´t edit the ini as long as the menu is running, because it caches the settings and saves them on close menu -> your edited file gets overwritten. Same with other settings..
