Copying your local Firefox settings to Firefox - problems

I followed the explanation provided in the "Portable edition support".

"Just copy the contents of that folder (except the cache directories) to the FirefoxPortable\Data\profile directory"

1) I did not find the cache directories
2) I get either FirefoxPortable\Data\settings OR FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\settings\profile Is the second directory the right one to copy my local settings?

"delete the file FirefoxPortableSettings.ini within the FirefoxPortable\Data\settings directory"
I got 2 directories with settings:

1) FirefoxPortable\Data\settings
2) irefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\settings\

The file to be deleted is in both directories; should I delete both files?

Thanks for your help

More Complex

Run it once before following the directions. I added that note. As to the rest...

You're making it more complex than it has to be. You don't have to hunt around. Just follow the directions exactly as written. If it says to "delete the file FirefoxPortableSettings.ini within the FirefoxPortable\Data\settings directory" why are you also deleting it in FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\settings\?

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for the answer. For

Thanks for the answer.

For the first question, I did not exactly have the same suite of directories (finally I used the one that looked sensible)

For the second question, I had 2 FirefoxPortableSettings.ini files within 2 directories. I finally followed exactly the support and left the second FirefoxPortableSettings.ini in the other directory.

I run firefox portable and it looks fine.

Should I however delete the second FirefoxPortableSettings.ini in the other directory?

No.

No, don't.

Ignore the file in "App\DefaultData"

DefaultData is exactly what it means. It's for the launcher and yourself to use if something bad happens to the "Data" file.

I have a similar problem

What exactly am I supposed to copy from C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles to FirefoxPortable\Data\profile? In the former directory I find two folders, one of which contains the default FF profile I want to transport to FF Portable. In the default profile directory there are two cache folders, Cache and OfflineCache, two .mfl files and one .sqlite file. I copied the last three, but didn't touch the cache folders, and pasted them to FirefoxPortable\Data\profile. There was no FirefoxPortableSettings.ini in that directory. This does not seem to have any effect on FF Portable when I run it again.
