More Info

Can you give us some more info on your setup? What directory/path did you install to? What operating system are yuo on? And did you rename or move or otherwise alter the Documents and other folders that the Platform installed?

More info here

I installed the platform directly to the usb port my flash drive was in at the time, at a public computer using Windows XP. I didn't do anything to rename or alter the folders, except that when it was finished updating from the previous version, there was 2 documents folders, so i put the new documents folder in the same place as the old. It said they would merge, i clicked yes, and it also copyed 2 files lableled desktop.ini into the folder, renaming one of each.

Sorry, but what you're saying there doesn't quite make sense.

It is not technically possible for windows to have two folders with the same name in the same place, which means that you must be saying that you installed the new platform into a different place to the old one.

What we need to know is [em]exactly[/em] what the paths to those two places are/were.

At a guess, what you've done, is installed the platform, then moved the documents folder to somewhere else, which is, of course, not where the menu is looking for it, which is why it can't be opened.

If you tell us the exact paths that it was in, where you moved it to, where the "old one" was, etc, we may be able to work out what happened.

Two folders

The new installation creates a Documents folder structure that is not the same as the existing Documents directory structure.

He tried to put his old stuff into the new place that the menu uses and is reporting that it he can't see his stuff.

You are right though... he probably didn't do the move correctly and his stuff is somewhere else in his folders. The question is exactly where?

Retried

Ok. I just reinstalled the platform. The same thing always happens:I re-open the flash drive folder, and the document folder is outside of the folder entitled portable apps. I don't want it like this, and i usually put it inside the folder. Is there a reason this always happens?

...

The Documents folder is supposed to be in the root. The PortableApps folder is like your local Program Files folder: Only programs should be in it.

Not currently

Not in the 1.5.x release. There will be in 2.0 which will be released shortly. Note that most apps will be expecting documents to be in X:\Documents and the PortableApps folder to be at X:\PortableApps.

Really?

Really? Notepad++ defaults to its own directory and VLC defaults to My Computer or Desktop. Though I'm sure if I dig around in the settings I can alter that, but there's also the long-standing bug where if you change the default screenshots directory and then go to take one, it crashes (and the default's the local user's My Pictures folder). Not that it affects me too much, but if the apps are supposed to look in the USB drive's documents folder by default, something's different with mine.

Some Apps

Only the apps where we can set it, really. Many of them we can't.
