Pidgin

It appears that ICQ is reporting that the latest version of Pidgin is out of date....Anyone else notice this?

The regular installation og the current Pidgin does not have this problem.

thanks

Errors

The Pidgin homepage says "ICQ is reporting errors in some locations which are generally fixed by upgrading to 2.5.5." That would indicate that 2.5.5 doesn't always fix it and they don't know why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Yes,,,,but

Yes...I read that...and after I couldn;t get the portable 2.5.5 to work, I installed the non-portable 2.5.5 to my desktop....and it works fine.

http://www.pidgin.im/~elb/icq.html seems to address Linux problems, but it does mention:

Pidgin 2.5.5 really does fix the ICQ problem. If you have upgraded, and your ICQ doesn't work, it's because you have an old version of libpurple installed which your new Pidgin is using instead of the 2.5.5 libpurple. You need to either remove the old libpurple (probably through your distribution's package manager), or cause Pidgin to find the new version instead.

Sounds to me like they know the problem and are telling us "Pidgin 2.5.5 really does fix the ICQ problem"

well you know libpurple is

well if you know libpurple is the error then why don't you download the source file, unpack it, search for the upgraded libpurple and use it to replace the old one in your existing pidgin install?
