Link on Portable Apps Start Menu Doesn't Launch Firefox
Firefox splash screen appears, then dissapears but the browser doesn't appear.
I reinstalled the Firefox portable app and it is still the same. I am currently running on a Windows XP PC and the portable app is on a portable hard drive. This previously worked fine on this PC and another (Vista) PC yeasterday using the same portable drive.
Portable Apps version is 1.5.2, Firefox 3.0.8
I had a number of Add-Ons in Firefox and these worked OK.
Other portable apps start and work as expected.
I hope someone can help me with this.
Thanks in advance

Update - Now a Crash!

I am now connected to a Vista Laptop (that the same drive worked on yesterday) and now clcking on the link crashes Firefox instigating the Mozila Crash Reporter. Further the crash reporter says "There ws a problem submitting your report". As I wanted to use Firefox I tried clicking on the firefox.exe and this does run Firefox albeit with a reduced set of add-ons. I wonder now if I have caused some damage doing this? Can anyone please help or suggest a way round this problem? Thanks

Profile Corruption

This is nearly always due to partial corruption in the profile either due to an unsafe eject (never do that) or a faulty USB port. You can confirm it by installing a new copy next to the old and trying it.

You could try starting it in safe mode (from the command prompt run FirefoxPortable.exe -safe-mode) and seeing if maybe its just a corrupt extension. If not, you'll need to rebuild your profile by copying the pieces that work from the old install to a new one. Try the safe mode thing first, if it fails, I'll walk you through it.

Corrupt Cache

I did what you suggest, and can confirm a new copy works fine.
It seems this was cause by a corrupt sub directory called chache in G:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile . I cannot delete or fix this directory for some reason - so I just renamed the path. An new installation works fine and as I used Foxmarks to back up my favourites, and I only have a few add-ons, I can easily reinstall back to my favourite set-up. Many thanks for your help. Have a good weekend. Regards

Check for Errors

Glad that worked. I'd suggest running a check for errors on the drive. After doing that and ejecting and reinserting the drive, you should be able to delete the corrupted directory.
