I just started using Firefox Portable (cross-platform version). I will mainly be using the Portable version on my XP at work. I copied over my current profile (from my Mac) onto the flashdrive also. Now I can't figure out how to get it to choose/use my old profile instead of the new one that opens on the first start. In regular Firefox, they talk about going into Profilemanager, but I can't seem to find that in the Portable folder.
Can anyone help me out?

The profile manager can only be used in a local copy of Firefox, not the portable version. I have no experience with the cross platform package you mentioned, so I can't help you with that at all.
If you're using a normal copy of Firefox Portable, the profile is within FirefoxPortable\Data\profile.

As I mentioned in this thread ( https://portableapps.com/node/2302 ), my folder doesn't have a "data" folder. I just placed it in the top-level profile folder. I asked in that thread if I need to delete one layer of folders--described better in other thread.

Like I said, the cross-platform version isn't something I created, and I've never used it. You need to copy it into whatever profile folder it uses. And again, I can't tell you what that is. Ask over on theplaceforitall.com where it is. In normal Firefox Portable, it's in FirefoxPortable\Data\profile. In the older PortableFirefox launcher it was PortableFirefox\Data\profile. And in the even older Portable Firefox launcher from before the directory changes (April and earlier), it was just PortableFirefox\profile.
Drupal (what this whole site runs on) doesn't support mailing notifications on new posts or thread subscriptions.

Can't you make a launcher that can choose different profiles (i.e. the profile directory it uses can change after the user chooses which profile to use at launch)?

There's really not much interest overall (that's why the profile manager is buried in desktop Firefox), especially as Windows XP/2000 are now dominant and Windows 95/98 are fading (it was these older versions of Windows that had a need for the profile manager... 2000/XP have user management built in, so every use gets their own). I've had maybe 6 people ask about it in the 2 years I've been making a portable version of Firefox. Portable drives are usually used by a single person. 99.99% of people have no need to have multiple profiles in a portable environement. And, even if you did, you can setup launchers in multiple locations with INI files.
The long and short of it is that there's no real need for it. For testing multiple versions of Firefox (which is the only situation you need the profile manager locally nowadays), you just have multiple instances of Firefox Portable, each with their own Firefox and profile. I've yet to hear anyone make any kind of compelling argument for supporting multiple profiles in a portable environment. And it's just extra development time and support time to support something like that.... that takes away from doing work on other apps that will be useful to lots of people.
Anyway, that's all really beside the point as we're dealing with someone who can't find their profile directory in the first place.

Just to defend myself a little, the issue wasn't that I couldn't FIND it, it just wasn't in the folder that everyone kept mentioning--as my version didn't have a "data" folder.
I just didn't realize that the cross platform version was so outdated that it had a different folder directory to store it in. I've since downloaded YOUR version and I'll try it out when I go back to work tomorrow.
I honestly thought that the Cross-platform was your version with just a script written by someone else to allow the cross-platform capabilities.

Well, the cross-platform one is just John's launcher with an additional script for Mac OS X; however, the launcher included with it is outdated.
