A long long time ago.... There was a U3 version of the Gimp version 2.2.13 which I have. I loaded it onto my Vista Compatible U3 Drive and when I goto run it I get about 5 or 6 errors, but it does end up working and running. I am just wondering if there is a more up to date version of the Gimp for U3? I know it is a long shot to ask because of U3's shady past but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks.

Gimp for U3 was not a PA.com product.
Was it an official U3 release?
If so try here: http://www.u3.com/
Or was it hacked to work on U3
In which case you would go to the place you got the first version.
Or you could use the version from here.
The PA.com version works perfectly fine on a u3 drive, it just wont appear on the U3 LaunchPad [if you really need it to show up on the U3 LaunchPad there is a hack for that too].

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
The PortableApps versionare are better(updated more frequently)
If you want to be able to launch it from your U3 Launchpad you can add a "shortcut" to it in the LaunchPad using my Shortcut Creator

just because they are portable apps and not u3 apps. besides, iours launches faster than the u3 version and is updated and released about a week after the official gimp is updated at the source.

i dunno about that update part, currently GIMP Portable is way outdated. I do agree that PortableApps >> U3

Papps version is the most recently updated and the last Gimp 4 U3 is 2.2
U3 version (2.2) is Here

I have a current version of GIMP U3. It's currently at 2.6.2. I took the PortableApps launcher code and rewrote it for the U3 platform. This was not "hacked" or half-@$$ed in any way. I rewrote the launcher by hand to account for the different directory structure, as well as the update procedure. My version supports installation of plugins and resources that will survive an update. It's still fairly new, but I would welcome testing. The launcher for GIMP is very similar to the one for Pidgin, which is another app that I've had out for a long time now, so even though this one is new, it has a solid base.

Where's the source code?
My launchers are all in SVN. GIMP's source is in the source package, GIMP release.
SourceForge SVN url:

GIMP Specific:

Also, I'm working my way up to the current version in the coming weeks. When I first started, I only had binaries for 2.6.1, so that's where I started, and I got 2.6.2 out the door shortly after. Mebbe after I get caught up on my calculus I'll have time to get all the way up-to-date (though I hear 2.6.6 is buggy on Windows, so I may stay at 2.6.5 and wait for the next bugfix)
Cheers

Well, I spent the better part of the night writing compile-time scripts to basically do what the PortableApps.comInstaller.nsi does, and now I've gotten around to releasing GIMP 2.6.3, and now that I have those scripts I will now be including source code in the U3 Packages themselves. Just rename the .u3p to .zip and extract it. Source code is in Device\Other\Source\LauncherSource. GimpPortableU3.nsi compiles the launcher, BuildU3P.nsi rebuilds the U3 Package, the same way PortableApps.comInstaller.nsi builds the .paf.exe installer for PAF apps.
