PortableApps suite v.1.5.2, John’s Background Switcher v.3.6 installed on PC
I just found out about PA changing backgrounds while active and tried it. Seemed to work as a great reminder that PA was active and the thumbdrive was still inserted.
Today I booted my PC running XP, no thumbdrive inserted and the background was blank. In the control panel for appearance the background listed is PortableApps_Wallpaper. John's background switcher, which is started from the Registry at boot, shows up in the Task Bar for just a flash, then disappears. Right-click on the Start menu-> Properties-> Taskbar tab, Customize button, John’s Background Switcher is in the Past Items section i.e. not active/loaded.
Downloaded and installed a fresh copy of John’s Background Switcher gets the same results. PA wallpaper switching must have buggered something on the PC that prevents JBS from staying active.
Hope someone can help me.
All it does is swap your wallpaper in on start and tell Windows to refresh. And then swap it back out on exit. It doesn't change any active apps or anything else. I'd suggest manually setting the wallpaper to something yourself and then restart your wallpaper changer.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Did that, renamed the PA wallpaper in the PA document folder, removed the thumbdrive, rebooted, installed fresh copy of wallpaper changer, it runs for a half-second and gets pushed out of the system.
I have been battling a web-link hijack rootkit/trojan what ever it is. Maybe related.
Thanks for your help.
