Strip Portable VLC

Hi,

It is possible to remove some plugins from VLC.
There are a lot options most people never use, especially the network streaming parts.

Maybe it would be a good idea to create a "Stripped Portable VLC"?

If they're taking up too much space, feel free to remove the plugins yourself. If John starts removing plugins from the VLCP distribution, we'll run into issues where someone might actually be using them and the removal leads to questions like "Why did you remove such and such plugin from the latest version of VLCP?" So see, none of us are really qualified to decide what plugins should be taken out of this so-called "stripped-down version," because everybody's different.

Heh! Like Portable Gimp? Smile

PG is totally unuseable (for me). All it does is tell me it cannot find this or that -- error, after error, after error...

I would hate to see this happen with VLCP!

BTW, Bruce, I noticed you said 'we'... Are you a developer here? Just curious -- trying to figure out the pecking order.

I said, "if John starts removing plugins..." What I meant by "we'll run into issues" and "none of us" is the community in general, not just the developer(s). John's not the only one who has to answer threads here, you know. Wink

Indeed, though, I was (sort of) a PA.com developer for a little while. I made a multiuser FFP launcher a few months ago, but I got lazy and ditched it. That's really the only thing I've done for this site. I'd love to be a developer here; I just don't have the patience.

Nonetheless, I do seem to be regarded here as pretty high up in the hierarchy. I guess people think I'm just really helpful!

I just accidentally left it out of the last release of Portable Firefox and then added it back in with the current releases of Firefox Portable. I've always included the DOM Inspector.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

There is a way to make

There is a way to make vlcplayer smaller that shouldn't cripple it in any way. Simply run a png optimizer (like pngout with GUI, capable of batch processing) on the png files in: .\App\vlc\osdmenu\
It's not much, but makes vlc smaller. Oh, and run it on the .\App\AppInfo\appicon.ico for an extra 10k of freespace (just make sure the transparent colour stays thatway). Smile

This could be used on any program in the future if minimal size is the goal.

I am particularly interesting in removing the additional plugins.

If, for example, I merely need a portable player for locally stored XVID AVI video, with MPEG audio, which plugins are the absolute minimum requirement?
