Really stuck with Wine

Hope you can help cos I've searched everywhere!

I'm trying to get Thunderbird Portable to work on an Asus eee pc 900, using the linux distro it was sold with (I believe based on Xandros). I've managed to get Wine to work in general, after a bit of a slog, but now I have a problem with TP. When I open the ThunderbirdPortable.exe with Wine, I get the following error:

Mozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: thunderbird.exe cannot be found)

I've tried reinstalling as it suggests (on a Windows laptop) but no luck.

Anyone any ideas?

Many thanks

Rob

Didn't work on Windows either?

"I've tried reinstalling as it suggests (on a Windows laptop) but no luck."

Maybe the file didn't download correctly. Failed downloads happen. Try to get a fresh copy (from this site, of course).

BTW, sometimes the file size is obviously wrong but sometimes you can't tell. They have a utility to read MD5 here so you can check your download accurately:

https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/winmd5sum_portable

Also, have you installed portable firefox? did that work okay?

tried redownloading...

...and reinstalled, but I still get the same error message. I tried with Portable Firefox and get a similar problem. I've also tried on a different USB stick, but no luck.

But yes, it seems to work OK on Windows.

If I manually find the thunderbird.exe it seems to work (although I haven't put any settings in or tried to use it in anger), but presumably this wouldn't be any good as I need to use the portable version!

very frustrating!

I remember playing on one of those as well...

I had no idea how to get to the folders so you can copy profile data.
