ascending/descending & threaded/unthreaded

Have 150 folders in TB 2.0.0.16 which were set for descending/threaded. When opened in Portable all reverted to ascending/unthreaded. And this continues to change back every time the program is turned on in a different computer.

Discovered that when TB was first opened all of the folders had question marks in lieu of actual msg counts, both unread and total. Go to View/Sort by and they read as I had them set. But when click on the folder it then changes the question marks to the actual numbers and the settings are reversed.

This occurred to me 2 years ago and continues to date. If a fix isn't found in portable or Mozilla itself, guess I will need to discontinue use of Thunderbird Portable when traveling.

Interesting that there hasn't

Interesting that there hasn't been a reply in 4 days. Does no one else experience this? Or am I to assume that it's a TB fault unrelated to Portable?

Doesn't happen to me, here

Hi,

I've been using TB and TBP for a long time, and the only times I've ever seen symptoms similar to those you describe are when I have manually and deliberately deleted the index files (*.msf) which also store the view settings for the folders.

When you say that you have them in TB, and are opening them in TBP, are you moving or syncing your profile, or are you opening them some other way.

If you could describe the steps of what you're doing, it may help us understand the cause of your problem.

Merely copying the mail &

Merely copying the mail & news folders from the desktop to the newly installed TB profile on the thumb drive.

This time while in portable, I manually changed all back to descending and they remained that way even when copied back to the desktop. Last year they reverted to ascending a couple of times with wore me down!

Have been under the opinion that there is a default setting somewhere that overrides the manual setting of descending -- presumably a bug in TB or in portable?

Also I asked in the TB

Also I asked in the TB newsgroup, Mozilla.Support.Thunderbird and didn't receive a single reply. Could it possibly be that no one else experiences this and it could be related to something in my very old profile being copying over? And if so, any ideas as to what that may be?

settings

should always be on the stick and this is also a kind of setting.
Now if TB is changing some of its settings when connected to other computer, then the portability might have been broken by some autoupdate or other things and from that time the TB is seraching for some settings on the harddrive of the host computer and not its own place on the stick.

Dont know, but try to backup data (you might use the portable apps backup) then delete the TB, install fresh and restore your data.

Then all should work as before.

The problem you describe I have never experienced so far, when list are set to descending, they will remain so and not change.
