Thunderbird Meltdown HELP!

Unable to read certain messages
Unable to edit drafts
Unable to access messages with attachments.

Thunderbird Portable version 2.0.0.18 (20081105)

At first it was Read reciepts or failure notices, I cannot open them or delete them. As soon as I select them Thunderbird freezes and I eventually have to Kill the Thunderbird proccess.

When I access the file directly thru - ..\Data\profile\Mail

i find in the message that freezes ThunderBird.

"This is a MIME-formatted message. Portions of this message may be unreadable without a MIME-capable mail program."

Is ThunderBird MIME Capable? Is that the problem here? Shouldnt it tell me that it cant read the file rather than crashing?

NOW messages with attachments that I have stored and could previously access, I cannot access anymore. Thunderbird just freezes. I have done a chkdsk.

well then

there will be some messages damaged in the message file and cause this.
Sure TB is mime capable, all kinds of mime types are supported.

If somehow possible, delete all those messages causing problems, clear the trash then too and see if after new installation all recovers. What you describe is certainly not normal, TB works well for most people for long time error free.
But ok, there might be some attachments having unusual files and needing some unusual software to open them. No all such software might be able to run under all circumstances and this might create problems. This would be then not a problem specific to TB, rather to the kind of attachment.
