Java in Portable FireFox-how to

Obviously, if you read any of a thousand post, there's no such thing as Portable Java but, most computers have Java on them so. I've found (and it may have been suggested before as well) that if you just copy and paste the right files from plugins (and possibly extensions as well) you can usually make java work on a computer that has java but, not IE.

I just erased everything off of my local copy of firefox and installed Java, Shockwave, and Flash (flash failed this last time for some reason but, I worked around it by downloading the proper DLL of the net). Once installed on my local machine all I had to do was copy and paste.

Just thought I'd put this out there. It seems to be working fine so far for me, course if the computer you're working on has no Java SE at all,if that's even possible nowadays, then it won't work.

-This method just allows FFP to recognize Java SE off it's host computer.

Edit: Apparently it's not perfect but, it does work to some extent. (I've yet to run into a real problem but, one site didn't recognize it, though the sites still working right.)

From FP Support

"No Portable Java - Sun's Java VM needs to be installed locally as it makes a slew of registry entries, etc. There is no way to make it portable at present, so you will only be able to use Java-enabled sites on machines that have the Sun Java VM installed locally."

Copying the files over just allows it to use the local java, the site you're using may use it's own java plugin or something. Otherwise the machine you're using must have Java for IE but, not Firefox. Also note that I'm talking about the Sun Edition which is the most commonly used java for internet. The development kits do have portable versions.

Firefox portable and Java, but installed on E:\

Hi gregnorris,
are you still working on Firefox Portable and Java?
Maybe you can help me solving my "problem".
I'm using Windows XP Pro (installed on C:\), Firefox Portable 3.0.10 ("installed" on E:\) and Java JRE 6.0.13

When Java is installed on C:\Programs - - Firefox Portable finds it automatically and websites using java work fine.

BUT when Java is installed on another partition - - NOTHING! Even copying of ALL .dll-files from Java/bin into FF Plugin folders (as somebody suggested in another forum) didn't help.

Any idea?

Edit 15.5.09:
Problem solved, registry was in a mess with old entries

Yeah... I think that has some

Yeah...

I think that has some bugs though...

I ran Eclipse (local install) after I closed the app (I MADE SURE I RIGHT-CLICK AND EXITED!!!)

And it said something like "Java not found in "J:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java" or something like that...

And now I need my flash drive for java apps on my comp...
