If I just pull my flash drive out of my computer, is there a way to make Firefox, and basically all of the programs I am using with Portable Apps, automatically close?

You should never do that as it could easily corrupt your Firefox profile resulting in losing bookmarks, cookies, history, settings or all of the above.
A later Platform release will handle this for when it happens accidentally, but you should absolutely not do it on purpose.

Removing a USB while it is in use risks corrupting the USB itself not just the Firefox profile. Except in extreme circumstance --- and the only one I thinkqualifies is the buidling is on fire --- you never unplug a USB device without using the Windows in-built option to eject a drive.
In the Properties of every single flash drive, if you click on the Policies tab, you will notice two options. They are as follows:
- Optimize for quick removal: This setting disables write caching on the disk and in Windows so you can disconnect this drive without using the Safe Removal icon.

- Optimize for performance: This setting enables write caching in Windows to improve disk performance. To disconnect this device from the computer, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar notification area.

As long as you're not using the flash drive for ReadyBoost, you can optimize it for quick removal. I have used the same flash drive for about a year. I've put important papers/programs on it with no problem and then removed the flash drive. There hasn't been a single instance where I lost anything. Nothing has ever been corrupted. I even keep a folder of all the .paf files on the flash drive, just in case. Haven't needed it thus far.

But even when it is implemented I would never rely on it. I too have most of my drives set for - Optimize for quick removal: and would still NEVER remove a drive from the usb port with out using the Safely Remove Hardware icon.
I had a friend who did it for years, and then one day, it did not work, 4 GB of data lost.
