I'd like to see Wavosaur from http://www.wavosaur.com in a PortableApps installer?

Not possible, but...

It's not possible for PortableApps.com to repackage it, as it is not open source and the readme strictly states that it cannot be hosted anywhere else.

However, it swears up and down on the homepage that it is inherently portable. So here's what you do. Follow your own link, download the program, extract the program from the archive, then go into your flash drive, into the PortableApps folder, make a folder called Wavosaur, and then drop the program, and the readme if you like, into that folder. Now in your PortableApps.com Platform, click Options, then Refresh App Icons. It should show right up. I've actually just done this and I assure you it works.

Thanks for the link - PortableApps.com does have Audacity, but it's horribly out of date, and while I have the newest version, it's a beta, and it's always nice to keep one's options open. Audacity is very good, but it isn't perfect. I'd rather replace it, if at all, with something open source, but that's alright.

If you could convince the author to release the program under an OSI-approved license, it could be potentially hosted here.

Alternatively

With the release of the new installer, the author could give permission for it to be made portable, we develop it, he hosts it and we link to his site.

@PA Gurus - Is this the correct interpretation of the policy towards PortableApps.com Installer freeware support?

Yes

Additionally, with their permission one could host it themselves: it doesn't need to be just them doing it.

New policy?

PA.c has official freeware (non-Open Source) policy now? Under just how big a rock have I been hiding, and for how long?

If the developer isn't going to make it open source, wouldn't it make more sense for him to make it portable himself?

Using open source has made me distrustful of non-open source freeware. If you're (they're) giving it away for free already, what's the harm in letting folks see under the hood? Y'all got me brainwashed... Wink

0.90

Since the release of the installer and format spec, 0.90.

From PortableApps.comInstaller.nsi as used by the lastest installer:

;EXCEPTION: The PortableApps.com Installer can be used with open source
;applications licensed under OSI-approved licenses as well as freeware provided
;it is unmodified and it adheres to the current PortableApps.com Format Specification
;as published at PortableApps.com/development. It may also be used with commercial
;software by contacting PortableApps.com.

I stand corrected.

Thanks for enlightening me.
