well

well for one thing XNView is much like reshack and does some of the stuff reshack does but Irfranview I believe is just an image viewer (someone correct me if I am wrong about irfranview)

XnView is a more advanced

XnView is a more advanced product than Irfanview. I use it all the time and love it - as a teacher i use alot of jpg/gif/pdf. Particularly useful for me is its batch conversion and tabs - i do alot of scanning and then GIF to PDF conversion. This is a plugin along with Ghostscript and is well worth using instead of a pdf writer. Although for longer docs i use primoPDF which is excellent. Both outstanding free apps.

Outside of work i like it for digital photo viewing and resizing. I would revert to to PhotoImpact for serious editing as XnView is not for that.

Irfanview was nothing like as sophisticated and as far as i can remember from trying it - just an image viewer.

Hope this helps.

comparing xnview and irfanview

xnview works well to view all images within a folder structure. I especially like that I can scan and find all images ahead of time. I can then set them to a slide show setting. It's nice.

I like irfan view for looking at the individual images because it is a versatile and simple utility. It works well. I can open images of any size and adjust for the size of my screen too.

IrfanView

I've been a long time user of Irfanview and I love it. It's lightning fast, does all the simple image manipulations I need to do (and some not so simple ones too), and I never have to wait.

I've tried a couple of times use XNView but I end up tripping over the interface, I prefer the more minimalistic approach of IrfanView, as I only tend to work with one image a time. To my mind XNView is a glorified thumbnail viewer and I already have that capability in FreeCommander.

I suppose it comes down to what you're using it for, but I personally prefer IrfanView.
