Pidgin: Crashing a lot?

Anyone else finding that pidgin portable crashes more and more with each update?

I don't think I can go through a 24 hour period without pidgin crashing...

Is anyone interested in resolving this?

What are the steps to take to get this resolved?

If nobody is interested or there are no steps, it's likely that I'm going to exchange pidgin for something else, such as miranda, and that would be a shame.

I hear good things about Empathy, shame it's linux only.

Plugins

Any chance you're using any plugins? Several are buggy. The Facebook plugin for Pidgin crashes it frequently.

Facebookchat plugin for pidgin crashes it?

I haven't had Pidgin crash once since installing that plugin (3 weeks ago), and I leave it open for a minimum of 12 straight hours daily. Every morning, go to school/work, and use it intermediately there. I also have three other accounts (AOL, MSN, and a Yahoo!) active simultaneously.

I am not a lucky person so I doubt it is that.

Limits are for people with no imagination.

It Is

I can reproduce it consistently. I leave it on all day. I have 4 networks + IRC + FB Chat. If I uninstall FB chat, it's fine. With it installed, it'll crash every 1-4 days now.

No, I wasn't using any

No, I wasn't using any plugins.

However, I find it's a little bit more stable since the last few updates.

The issues seemed to be surrounding the MSNP.

I'll update this if I get any further issues...

Thanks.

As John said

What plugins are you using? Any chance you are using WebPidgin? The FB chat plugin still is pretty buggy as well.

Don't bother...

No one knows. It happens on my system too.

And I have no plugins, fresh install.

and Facebook....

Windows Pidgin Options

all 2.5.5

OTR 3.2.0

edit: I update, will report back later when problems still occur!

Facebook Plugin

The Facebook plugin is unstable and *WILL* cause Pidgin to crash. It affects both Pidgin and Pidgin Portable. I've tried it, it crashes by local Pidgin a couple times a day. Removing it fixes the issue.

If you don't want Pidgin to crash, don't use the Facebook plugin. This issue is outside of Pidgin and our control. You should file bug reports with the author of the plugin, not with the Pidgin developers or PortableApps.com.

actually it's not pidgin that

actually it's not pidgin that crashes. Only the connection.

If not set up properly, MSN and facebook can give a mix up, I made a new threat so it's clear what I mean.

I had this happening, but pidgin runs stable with the facebook plugin for some time, now!

Thread Removed

I removed the thread before I saw your response here as it appread to be a dupe, sorry.

If it's anything to do with the Facebook plugin at all (crashes, losing connection, etc), it's not related to us or to Pidgin. If it's your net connection itself, that's an ISP issue.

My Facebook connection within Pidgin goes down regularly without crashing pidgin. Several times a day. It's a plugin issue or an issue with Facebook (as Facebook does not allow external apps like Pidgin to connect officially).

Okay - thanks for that

Okay - thanks for that answer. That it'd be a problem with facebook and not the program pidgin itself - so much I figured myself already.

Just thought you guys might have an answer to that problem.

Today it's more or less fine so I guess I just have to cope!
