Hey guys, long time user of portable apps but first time forum poster here.
My corporate SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) software called StartPortableApps.exe a Trojan Horse today and quarantined/deleted it.... fair enough... I deleted and formatted my USB drive... went to another PC, re-downloaded the Portable apps install executable from Portableapps.com and set my USB drive and apps up again.... took it to a server in the lab (still different PC we are talking about here) that also has SEP loaded and got the same thing?!?!?!
I fear Symantec has a "false positive" on StartPortableApps.exe?
Any of you Portable apps guys seen this today? This only started for me today.
(side note:)
My colleague just walked up because he heard my bitching and confirmed that the same thing just happened to him.
I also scanned the file with Clamwin and it found nothing.... only SEP seems to complain.
Is this just Symantec with another erroneous false positive or does portableapps have a infected download?
Curious...

and so I had to make it an exception when it runs. I've sent an email over to symantec as well. Wow, this was the first time for me that it flagged PAM ever since I started using PAM. Other scanners did it before, someone at symantec must have mucked with their updates.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
Same thing here. Hope they get this figured out soon.
Yeah same here, and as I haven't got admin privileges on this machine that's me goosed til Norton get their act together
send up ther and see how many scanners complain abt it.
But it gives you also general idea what such 'feel secure all around' packages are worth. If you need stress and problems, install one of the 'security suite' and you have what you were looking for.

I've been using PA for almost a year now, and only today Symantec detected mine as a trojan and deleted it.
