Well I've asked in a couple of threads about Skype portable launchers if they work with 4.x, but haven't gotten any answers so I thought I'd ask here as well... Is there a portable launcher for the Skype 4.x version?

I believe John T? Haller dropped a hint about this not long ago about having an official Skype Portable released once official freeware support is a reality. Until then you can use a launcher but i personally will be waiting for the official release.

Thanks - I've tried it!
Well it's either that I'm doing something wrong or the new Skype is too damn bloated and doesn't really offer any new features except for the "prettier" looks. Besides I couldn't see how to transfer my old chat histories into the new Skype so unfortunately I gave up on it for now.
But I DO thank you guys for pointing me in the right direction!
installation and makes it portable. Thats all.
They might be data not transfered, so you might copy them simply by hand to the data folder from the place where they are on your PC. There is no real difference between the skype versions as I can see it, it has to be compatible after all. The difference is only some optics, little different layout, but you can not have much other functions, this will then not work on Linux for example where only version 3 exists.
I there are any new feature, they will only concern some local function, not much online stuff.

Yeah, that's why I switched back to my old 3.8.x version, which works perfectly portable... Well one thing that could be wished is running a few instances of Skype at the same time, especially since I run it portably anyways.
