disable autocomplete in url bar'

Does someone know how to disable or temporary override the autocomplete function in the FF 3?

In FF2x it was temporary disabled when shift key was pressed, in the FF3 this seems not to work any more.

Can this be completely switched off?

possibly

You could try the OldBar addon, at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6227 which reverts some aspects of the awesomebar to the FF2 style address bar.

Not sure that it does exactly what you're after, but it may be worth a try

Awesomebar = win

I read your post with skepticism. Is it really called the awesomebar? So I googled the term, and found this article which says how to disable it. A Google search for "awesomebar" returned other, similar results, too.

I think the awesomebar is quite awesome. But that's just me.

tried those so far

machOnlyTyped as well as the oldbar, but non of them work. OK, clearing the cache helps, but this should not be the end to it. I FF2x there was the way to block that thing by pressing shift , but his seems to be omited completely now. Bad luck then.

Try this: 1. Open Firefox 2.

Try this:
1. Open Firefox
2. Type about:config in the address bar, press enter
3. Double-click Browser.urlbar.maxRichResults
4. Set value to 0

yes did that too

but maxRichResults does not anything else then setting the dropdown list to zero or whatever you set it too. It does not interact in any way with the autocomplete function unfortunately.
It looks like the press shift function is missing in FF3 and the only way to stop autocomplete work is to delete the cache every time.
